I went to see Aqualung at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee last night (their 'favorite place to play in the US') and I had no idea who the opener would be. Out walks one lone woman- she unassumingly sits down at her keyboard and I have to wonder- can she hold the stage by herself. I just came out of some very disappointing solo opening acts to a Ben Kweller concert so I was a bit leery. Well this woman, Sara, sits down and starts belting out this gorgeous voice and great keyboard melodies- I was blown away. Sitting in this amazingly beautifulold theater with this soulful music that just perfectly filled the space was such a great experience- simple happiness. And when she would go up and effortlessly hit the high notes- it's just- wow! Then Josh Day came out to join her on an ecclectic mix of percussion- including playing a 'box' that doubled as a stool and foot stomping a tambourine in place of a high hat. (to be continued in next post)The song below is called Gravity Not sure how to categorize her but she is listed as soul/pop/funk on myspace and the album comes up as Blues in itunes.
