Memory Man

Posted almost 5 years ago
I just got the new Aqualung CD yesterday and I tell you- it just made the drive home in the gorgeous spring weather that much better. Although it hasn't taken the place of Strange & Beautiful for me yet, I've been enjoying the new tunes, which are a slight departure from the old stuff. I would say overall it has a spacey/airy feeling to it (if that makes any sense). Some reviews that I agree with:“The shimmering keyboards, the slow oceanic roar of the drums, vocals reverberating off canyon walls, cinematic textures that plot the music somewhere between prog and pop” PASTE“Tranquil despite its complexity” Performing Songwriter“A beautifully moody and intense recording filled with poetic songs and that lovely, hypnotizing voice we discovered on his last album…His exceptional talent shines through on this album” ZINKAlthough 'Pressure Suit' is the new single off the album, I've included another musical sampling for you here. Also check out my youtube video for an instore performance of 'Something to Believe In' - I'm guessing the next single that will be pushed from the album.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82--q4o-w2c

  2. KJean says Ahhh! I was at that in-store in Madison! I was the one who had to help him with the words to When I Finally Get My Own Place. Haha...I felt bad! But he's a super nice guy, isn't he?? Anywho, Memory Man has been on repeat since I got it a week or so ago. I definitely had it blasting while driving the car with the windows down when it was nice out. I personally think this is a great record. It shows how Matt (and the band) has grown over the past few years. I like that it's not just a voice and a piano; there are many more layers than that. But...it still has that Aqualung feel! I REALLY like Something to Believe In, Vapour Trail, Rolls So Deep, The Lake, Outside, Garden of Love, and Broken Bones....well...all of them! They're coming back to Milwaukee in May! Hooray!
