nothin' worse than an educated fool

I love soul music. Of course, I have heard Ike & Tina Turner. I know their classics:Proud Mary (which I thought was the original until recently), and uh... well I guess that's all I knew.Last weekend I went home to Michigan for my sister-in-law's baby shower. I got to hang out with my brother a lot. One thing we have in common is our love of music. The first music he really got into in high school (jimi hendrix, the doors, the dead milkmen) was swiped from my record collection, and in college we were into a lot of the same bands (the pixies, KMFDM, L7). After that though, our tastes diverged.It made for some interesting mixed tapes that he's given me over the years. I discovered the Modern Lovers, and Nirvana through him. For a while he was into punk, then hardcore, and then blues. Now it appears my little bro has discovered soul.Leave it to him to expose me to another gem.He was practically dying to play this Ike & Tina compilation CD for me. It's called "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter" and it IS.He ordered me a copy of it for helping out with the shower, so now I am grooving like a mofo.We had some interesting conversations about how Ike is pretty much a musical genius, but all everyone knows about him is how he beat his wife. What comes around, goes around, Ike. But it really is too bad he was such an asshole.Because he really should be known for how amazing his music is.Check it out for yourself.
