ATTENTION FIVE GUYS EMPLOYEES! past or present

So last night I had a good 'ole American craving for a greasy cheeseburger & fries. Headed down to the local Five Guys. I get out of the car, and Grace Slick's asking, "wouldn't you love somebody to love?" on the outside speakers. I sing along & comment to my roommate about the good music. It doesn't stop there, though...next track, Clapton's "Lay Down Sally", followed up by Boston's "More Than A Feeling", Yes' "Long Distance Runaround", and Rolling Stones' "Tumbling Dice". Then, as we're leaving the joint, Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone," starts playing. The other patrons in the restaurant probably thought I was a lunatic when I belted out, "DIDN'T YOU?" like I was on _American Idol_, but anyway....the little moments in life are often the most meaningful :o) Even though it was a standard classic rock assortment, it seemed like a much cooler mix of tunes than any other restaurants I've been in recently. My question to Five Guys' employees is what's the policy on tunes? Do employees choose or is it a satellite service or....? Also, anyone else have great music & dining experiences?

...my favorite part of that Dylan tune to drawl with a mob when the oat sodas are flowing:

"You used to laugh about Everybody that was hangin' out Now you don't talk so loud... Now you don't seem so proud... About having to be scrounging for your next meeeeeal-ah!"

...how does it feel? It feels quite nice, yo...man, he was on fire when he sat down and wrote that one...good memories...umbrella drinks all around...thanks for the post, mama...

Ha! So cool. I love singing out loud, but so paranoid I'll do it in public. I usually confine it to my shower and my car. :)

I love going to diners that have oldies playing in the background. Mexican restaurants with mariachi bands and Italian restaurants that pipe through some Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

Really, I hate going to a restaurant when they have inappropriate (for the theme) music piping through. Talk about ruining the ambiance! That's one of the reasons I dislike so many franchised and chain restaurants. Not only do they generally have poor vegetarian options, but they'll play stuff that doesn't compliment the decor, atmosphere and cuisine.

Sheesh, I guess I'm more of a music snob than I originally thought! :)

Heh, reminds me of the last temple trip down to Oklahoma City. On the way back, we stopped at an Arby's, and I got inappropriately excited to hear Scritti Politti's song "Perfect Way". The other guys with whom I went thought I was nuts.

crash - drunken group singing sessions are great - i was having the sober solo session last night :o) and i'd definitely like to take this moment to thank Dylan for all the incredible songs he's contributed to my life AJ - being a music snob is almost a prerequisite to be my friend. I want to go eat queso and watch a mariachi band RIGHT NOW. preferably the mariachi band in _Once Upon A Time In Mexico_... Dale - ARBY's RULES!!!! I am always inappropriately excited when I am there, regardless of the music hehe.

DUDE the five guys in harrisonburg ROCKS. they're ALWAYS playing kick-ass music. it's freakish. i had a similar experience the first time i went there as well. i actually just moved back from the burg in august, and i gotta say - i miss it like crazy. i get these cravings for dave's, too - hello? fries and spanikopita with a $2 pitcher? - and the dodger's coffee. ah, harrisonburg. good times.

I can't imagine missing Harrisonburg, but the place surely has grown on me! And you are so making me crave a Dave's gyro now...mmm. I haven't been downtown lately (due to lack of money) but Dave's has been bringing in some good live acts recently. And gotta love the Dodger!

i couldn't imagine missing it either, when i left. it's only once you're gone that you get all wistful and shit - it's been happening to all of my friends who've moved recently. you catch yourself and you're like, "what the fuck? i was so HAPPY to leave!" and two days later, it pops right back up. like herpes or something. lol. when i first lived in the burg, dave's had open mic night, and last year they nixed it for reasons still unfathomable to me. i heard they've been having kick-ass bands lately, a lot of my friends work there or practically live there during happy hour. luckily for me, i lived downtown - a bit inconvenient for parties, but otherwise a great location.

I don't think I will ever miss the dog food/chicken smell. But, downtown Hburg _is_ cool. It has been surprising to me that I've come across so many moggers who are either in Hburg or used to be. It's a shame I never knowingly ran into you around town...I had convinced myself that all the cool people were gone.

my top match on mog is in harrisonburg, and i don't know him either, though i do think it's odd. isn't it funny - harrisonburg seems like such a small town after you've been there for awhile because you're always running into people you know, but it's sort of an illusion. although i have noticed that just about everybody in the burg has at least one person in common. ah, the dog food smell. my sister thought she was hallucinating the first time she came up there because we told her it didn't exist.

startin' to dig your stylie! anyone that compares classic rock to greasy americana cuisine is a classic mogger in my books. Right ON! o yeah, and your collection of music is pretty cool, too. Love that Natalie Merchant...

I heard "The Chain" the other day, and as I was driving along, singing it at the top of my lungs, I realized how much I still love Stevie Nicks. It's an "I want to _be_ her" type love :O)

"Loneliness...like a heartbeat, drives you mad In the stillness of remembering what you had, and what you lost ooo what you had, ooo and what you lost"

Ahh..this song is going to be in my head _all_ day, but that is way better than this Zeppelin/Kelly Clarkson mash-up that Heliotrope posted
