WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

How Many Plays...

Posted over 3 years ago
does it take to get to the point where you like a song? If it's spectacular, I'd say one play and I'm hooked. But then some songs grow on me. Maybe it's due to their complexity or maybe my ears are just stubborn or distracted when I listen to the song the first few times. Or maybe I'm just not in the mood to like the tune. In any event, sometimes it takes numerous (2, 3, 4) plays, for me to like a song that originally did nothing for me. Those same number of plays can turn a song that I initially like into a song I'm ready to marry and spend eternity playing. Perhaps you, the readers of my mog here, can relate. Or perhaps you think I'm looking waaay too deeply into this matter. But hell, I feel like it, so neah.

  1. eshep says there are very few songs that i like first-listen that end up being in my all-time faves. there are rare occasions when a song i love at first stays with me (there are exceptions like 'hey ya!' or 'crazy' or 'loser' and other monumental freaks of nature). that being said, i don't have time to give tracks more than 3 or 4 listens before deciding what i think of it.

  2. trigger says I feel if I like a song immediately, I'm not going to like it for long. If it takes me a few listens to get into a song, I'm going to like it for a long time. I posted something similar to this a while back. check it: http://mog.com/trigger/blog_post/855
