17 years later, 26 million people have purchased the 1991 copy of his baby picture and nirvana's nevermind.  and no doubt, the picture of his weiner is taped up on many a record shop's wall.  but spencer elden can't really relate to the fact that his likeness floating toward's a dollar bill on a fish hook is a symbol for a major shift in the history of rock and roll.

i heard an npr story about this...

"Elden's naked participation in this important moment in music history was rather accidental; Kirk Weddle, the photographer working on the cover, was simply a friend of Spencer's dad, Rick.

"[He] calls us up and was like, 'Hey Rick, wanna make 200 bucks and throw your kid in the drink?,'" Rick recounts. "I was like, 'What's up?' And he's like, 'Well, I'm shooting kids all this week, why don't you meet me at the Rose Bowl, throw your kid in the drink?' And we just had a big party at the pool, and no one had any idea what was going on!"

Three months later, while driving down Sunset Blvd., the Elden family spotted a 9-foot-by-9-foot Spencer floating across Tower Records' wall. Two months later, Geffen Records sent 1-year-old Spencer Elden a platinum album and a teddy bear.

As Elden learned to walk, talk and sing — his pale baby arms stretched across millions of grungy fans' walls; his private parts stood magnified across billboards and floors"

i go to music festivals every year that have no sponsorship and no branding and virtually no budget. but they rarely have anyone famous playing. this is an unusual find!

i haven't posted about this group since there were very few members on mog, and it seems like a good time to try and turn the legions on to some great musicians.

garaj mahal is a bay area/east bay, california based jam/jazz/funk/improvisational ensamble.

fareek haque is only one member, but happens to be one of my favorite guitarists of all time.

this 13 minute+ jam 'sesh is taken live from santa cruz in '03.

maybe a little too much ''noodlin'' for some of you, but check it...tightness.
