~bek david campbell~

i am about to post my all time favorite beck song AND dedicate it to kiddo because, according to her mog page, she has an aversion for the kazoo.

plus the first time i saw her avatar i near busted a gut. one of the all-time funniest photos i have ever seen on the internet. i like to laugh. can any of you top this? _look at the kitten_

back to beck, you may know that he is one of my favorite artists. a musical genius (i place him in the same category as prince...) with much to say. lines like the title of this post and "catch a chill off the stove" and "ring the moon like a broken bell"

also, did you know that beck's grandfather (al hansen) was a genuine fluxist? (maybe i should have uploaded readymade...-alas another post!) they put on a show back in '98 together called playing with matches.

very cool shit.

_slow and eerie_

so the story goes like this... this song was recorded a long time before mellow gold. it was back in 1992 around the same time beck first hooked up with carl stephenson and bong load records. tom and rob of bong load each separately discovered beck busking and they immediately set him up with stephenson. a few recording sessions later, they had "loser" and "steal my body home" in the can, and the first single with the two songs was released on bong load. the rest is history.

Put me in a hole in the ground With the money and the town And the women all running around

Can't complain about the mess Mama killed her only dress Now she's longing for the pines

Watch my troubles all unwind Drinking gasoline and wine Catch a chill off the stove

On the train they cannot feel Lost my head beneath the wheel Now she steals my body home

The trees are fake, the air is dead The birds are stuffed with poisoned lead And the ground is much too clean

And if it's only me who's scared Strap into electric chairs Ring the moon like a broken bell

When she drags you from the hill Daddy's gonna burn down there still We can watch it from the rooftop

Lay into the frying pan Now she kisses her own hand With a fiddle on the fire

I took a leap into the fog Sleeping on a hollow log Now I'm coughing with no mouth

You can keep yourself inside But you know you cannot hide When the devil's your only friend

I love old Beck. I still like him now but he isn't as delightfully strange now as he was then. Didn't know that about him and Al. Their art was pretty cool. Well check kiddo out. That avatar is the cutest ever. I love kazoo's too. I smell a "I love kazoo's!" post coming. Great post kaleef.

thanks fistula! do you like the album one foot in the grave? that is my number one stolen album, i have had to re-buy it eight freakin times! and i am not exaggerating (although it was chewed one of those times by an anti-beck labrador)

and not as delightfully strange as he used to be. but his music is ever progressing. i can't wait for his next album, and then the next and whatever else he may get in to.

I'll still keep getting whatever he puts out too. He's still got so much rare stuff I haven't heard. I loved One Foot In The Grave. The guy is a genius. Have you seen this site? I just found it. http://www.whiskeyclone.net/disco/ I want all of this stuff.

nice find, eh? yeah, i depend on that site for all his lyrics and inside info on his songs. whiskeyclone/almost a ghost has been around for years and years. it's a great and accurate resource!

the genius of our era. I can see Beck's relevance being equivalent to David Bowie somewhere down the road.

that made me laugh. I did not know that there was such a thing. my friends never believe the stuff I learn on mog....wait till I tell them about anti-beck labradors.

yeah birdshit! good call. definitely a legend of our era.

marigold, seriously, that dog hated my music. he chewed up a crap load of my stuff, including my favorite bra and my keens. rascal. i think he thought it was too depressing. he is a very happy pup. prolly listens to the mamma mia soundtrack.

he took out your keens? OUCH. those things are not cheap. that would suck. my wife keeps telling me i need to get a pair. she loves hers...i am surprised she does not sleep in them.

while the kazoos love is great, it was her dislikes column that caused me to instantly trust her.........dislikes - people who dont like the kazoo

hmmm, I've heard this track somewhere before ... ;) and yep, Beck is indeed great.

No dog of mine has ever had an aversion to the music I played - fortunately, else I would'a had to part ways with the poor thing. Quite to the contrary, my old roommate had a german shepard who _loved_ Nirvana ... it was the cutest thing ever when we would play _Bleach_ and the dog would howl into the speakers along with Kurt.

right on rawk, me too! see now that's a good/cool dog e! oh you know i had to add that song at some point, it moves me... and coincidentally it is my roommates bad dog who had gone and done the bad deed-BAMA!

yeah, that was what got me to trust her, too.

these guys came to perform in my town late last year and frequently use kazoos in their music. they even gave the audience complimentary kazoos to play along on a couple of songs.

ha! i like their name - the two man gentlemen band. but honestly, a group of folks all playing the kazoo at the same time doesn't exactly equate to a euphonic experience to me... i guess i would have to hear it to make a judgment. or go loopy. moderation moderation moderation

Haha!! Thanks for the dedication! And Beck's kazoo made my day! I've been out of town a lot recently (and therefore a bit neglectful with my MOG), and when I logged on for a second yesterday, I wondered why my MOG Meter had jumped back up to Blazing. Now I know! :)

By the way, I almost bought an awesome metal kazoo yesterday. I think now I'll have to go back to the store and pick it up. Keep on moggin'!

yeah kiddo, i am glad you saw this! i tried to mog message you about it but every time mog said it had gaseous pain... and you passed up an awesome metal kazoo? what? are you car-razy? go get it!

and thanks twig! (i think...)
