hi all! so last night i pulled out the old palace music vinyl and fell in love with this song all over again. is mog acting funny again or is it really true that noone has posted some old will oldham? well then, let me introduce you to who bonnie "prince" billy was before he started calling himself by that name.

the palace strand

oh hey, if you are in and around atlanta next weekend stop by lenny's and see my man's band, codex boom. (and the poster i made for him...)

and for the holiday? not going home this year. we decided to stay in, eat pizza and start a lil 2-bodied dance party...

electrelane. end it with a period.

i got some bad news. i just heard that electrelane, one of my favorite bands is about to take an indefinite hiatus.

"we have decided that the upcoming gigs will be our last for the foreseeable future" says their myspace page, so if you live in europe, please, see them for me.

it hurts when beloved bands break. can't they just stay together? maybe if i stomp strong and clap like a fool they'll come back on?

cock-rock, stomp and sounds like... pulp

what a fun last couple of weeks. to quickly wrap up i saw _lez zeppelin,_ an all-female _led zeppelin_ tribute band. i won the tickets from the local college radio station and wasn't really sure what i was in for. needless to say, steph paynes _was_ jimmy page. holy shit, i was screaming like a little girl, and the bassist melted my face (john paul jones would be proud). then last wednesday, _scout niblett_ and _st. vincent._ scout was exactly how i pictured her. powerful, concise, loud and passionate. her set was way to short, but i tell you, seeing her screech and stomp with maybe 40 other people was pretty fucking intense. then last night it was _scissors for lefty_ and _pela._ what can i say about this show? if you get a chance to see scissors for lefty you must do it!!! now that is what i call a fun time. five guys on this little stage, jamming away. the lead guy came down in the audience, serenaded this chick - he reminds me a great deal of jarvis cocker. at random times the bassist would jump down and dance around with all the hipsters shaking what there mama's gave 'em. their theatrics were not to trump the actual talent these guys have. i have to say, that may have been the best show of the year. well, no, the best show of the year so far goes to modest mouse. now that was...

anyway, next on the list is... ben kweller, and possibly interpol. actually defintely interpol, they are playing at the tabernacle! very cool venue - old church, dusty lounges, every seat has a great view.

and since i don't have any _scissors for lefty_ mp3's, here's a little pinback for yew all. i don't know, it's what i was listening to on the way into work this morning. i am falling in love all over again with their first album.

hope you all have a delightful day~

_marmoset is comprised of four men from the quaint village of indianapolis with an ear for melody and a bit of an inclination toward the dark side._
_they make pop music with a forked tail and a dirty grin._

off their latest,

the limp twins
_russell porter and will holland have known each other since their early teens and have always enjoyed making and listening to music together. as the limp twins the pair try to capture that enjoyment. william holland has already won the world¹s attention with his previous releases for tru thoughts under the guises of quantic and quantic soul orchestra. alongside russell porter¹s vocals and keys, holland lends his deft production to the limp twins, as well as playing bass, guitar and saxophone._

wreckless eric

guess what movie i saw last night...
i was charmed.

_born eric goulden in newhaven, sussex, england, wreckless eric became interested in music through the pub rock scene of the mid-’70s. wreckless eric gained notoriety as part of stiff records’ highly eccentric roster of punk and new wave artists during the late ‘70s. with his whiny, slurred cockney voice, eric couldn’t carry a tune, but that didn’t prevent him from being an enjoyable, if limited, rock & roller. with his early stiff singles “whole wide world,” “semaphore signals,” and “take the cash (k.a.s.h.),” eric bashed out a series of ragged, chaotic, three-chord punk-pop singles driven by his pent-up energy and a knack for melodic pop hooks. wreckless eric never had a big pop hit, but his engaging sense of humor and fondness for simple rock & roll helped make him a cult figure who continued to have a following into the ‘90s._

lavender diamond, aptly named folk

yesterday's lunch, stealing the shade of nice healthy oak to take a lil' cat nap for myself.
i put on album 88 to listen to some tunes, but instead, a sweet girl talking about string theory, energy flow, hope for humanity, power of individuality, imposition of life, loving the ground, excitement for renaissance.

i listened to "becky" and completely agreed, wishing i could be as articulate and steadfast. she's right, you know.

heard of lavender diamond.
earthy, whimsical vocals. pleasantry.

she talked:
about having a weak voice when she was young, not speaking till she was three.
about a singing scholarship taught by a man who spent time in the war trench listening to soldiers death cry.
about eating in a turkish pizza place in belgium and being mortified that AKON was on repeat play.

her name is becky stark. i recognize that name! she sang on elvis perkins _ash wednesday._
beautiFULL. warm & kind, becky's got it right.

molina molina

_songs: ohia is one man, jason molina, a tenor guitar-wielding songwriter from the shores of lake erie._

i am quickly realizing that i usually upload the first song i have heard from any particular artist. no exception here. these firsties, they remind me of that a-ha! moment you get when you like what you hear. thanking whom/whatever for the satiation. i post them in hope that someone else will feel the same way.

~since i have a limited amount of the "3"s at the end of my "mp"s i do my best. usually older songs but never moldy.~

tuesday cheers.

no, but it would be nice. it was over a year ago since the last time.

won't settle.
enjoy my time spent.
concerned about the ones i _do_ meet.

but still, it would be nice...

during the day the earth shifts.
that's a fact!
i ran outside to move my black coffin to the shaded area.

step2. i was listening to npr this morning. i know this cause when i turned on the car i heard terri gross~fresh air. well maybe, but i like her voice when she says that. anyway, who?
i hear a man talking about "meg."

step3. immediately, is that jack white? yep. listened for 5 minutes. ran inside, npr.org. not until 5pm. shit!

step4. log on to iTunes store and purchase icky thump. i knew it would happen that way. all of the sudden, need their latest. sweet impulsive treat and i will listen to it thoroughly for the next 2 weeks.

thanks npr for making this girl so contented. FOR STIRRING HER DESIRE.
and a big no thanks for an asynchronous stream.

this is not romance

(and it all relates)

i had a dream last night like most. i remember some of it. it's music related.

let me summarize...
stephen malkmus and i. we were in love. we played in traffic. the ground behind us was this crazy trippy cartoonish appearance that wiggled oh-so slightly. (like a chad vangaalen animation). we didn't speak. we hung out at the food mart and drank red slurpies.
but the best part was when he grabbed my hand and we jumped off these really tall pine trees. instead of falling down we went up up up! we giggled about this~
fogginess follows
there had to more but i can't put it together.

such a shame to wake up to an alarm.

watch this one if you kinda like the malkmoose, it's an easy song to like.

~bek david campbell~

i am about to post my all time favorite beck song AND dedicate it to kiddo because, according to her mog page, she has an aversion for the kazoo.

plus the first time i saw her avatar i near busted a gut. one of the all-time funniest photos i have ever seen on the internet. i like to laugh. can any of you top this?

_look at the kitten_

back to beck, you may know that he is one of my favorite artists. a musical genius (i place him in the same category as prince...) with much to say. lines like the title of this post and "catch a chill off the stove" and "ring the moon like a broken bell"

also, did you know that beck's grandfather (al hansen) was a genuine fluxist? (maybe i should have uploaded readymade...-alas another post!) they put on a show back in '98 together called playing with matches.

very cool shit.

_slow and eerie_

so the story goes like this... this song was recorded a long time before mellow gold. it was back in 1992 around the same time beck first hooked up with carl stephenson and bong load records. tom and rob of bong load each separately discovered beck busking and they immediately set him up with stephenson. a few recording sessions later, they had "loser" and "steal my body home" in the can, and the first single with the two songs was released on bong load. the rest is history.

_after moving from indiana to berkeley in the summer of 2000, birds of america's nat russell began compiling his four-track recordings, releasing two cassettes and a lathe-cut 7 inch on his own joyous sound and vision record label._

_the debut album, CURRENT CARRY, arrived in the first month of 2005 . the record is a home-made meditation on the cycles of life, love, and death._

happy trails to you blair.

at this moment i am listening to henry and kevin's
send-off song for blair. the humanity here at mog! how very beautiful. how very thoughtful. all three of you rock.

it reminds me of my traveling adventures. personally, i have "up and left" four times that i can count since i was eighteen. i can identify with the hope of the grass being greener. perpetually _unsatisfied_ with my situations. my story starts with nyc, then cork, then key west and now atlanta. i finally am allowing myself to become rooted and that, in itself, is what petrifies me the most. actually, that is presently what i am struggling with. however, those fears, where ever they may stem from, are the lust of life. you gain perspective by pushing yourself into unknown situations and realize that you can control your mind (and not always your environment.) you learn to identify the fear, realize there is a natural rhythm, and change in whatever form, is inevitable.

there is no better time than now.

and support is always a phone call away.

good luck to you blair, and i hope LA realizes how very lucky it is to have you.

i am incapable of writing a song for you but i can upload.

"travel out west, the future's blessed..."

p.s. please tell beck i love him

ultraaa velvet, hancock, dekker and the skyline from a dodgy part of town (recap)

right now my ipod has a sprain.
it was given by electrelane.
love love love their latest album.
and thanks to a suggested piece of info from the all knowing soulrocket i found some b-sides too!

ever listen to a song and it gives you the goose bumps?

so i saw herbie hancock at the free jazz fest several weekends ago, here's a shot of that. he was amazing, a living legend. the guys gotta be what, -eighty?- (err... no, according to moovyphreak he recently turned 67.) either way he is still jamming and getting all funky up and out there.

and i saw great lake swimmers several nights ago and here's a shot of tony dekker. how amazing, and eleni mendell opened for him. great show, highly recommend (if that means anything...)

also, somehow i walked into a sleepytime gorilla museum show, not truly my taste but they had some homemade instruments. ever see a bass harmonica? that thing is the size of her head.

a moment of right now on bar (that's my girl...)

god damn. i do love this city. and if i wasn't throwing a house party tonight my priority would be to either attend the feist/grizzly bear show at the varitey or see snowden at the earl. shapes and sizes and the national played on wednesday night but it was sold out!

but great lake swimmers tonight

normanoak had to cancel thursday.
for reasons that make chad suspicious.
i was bummed.
for about four minutes i sort of felt how this song sounds.

_formed in the autumn of 2001, the evens released their self-titled debut on Dischord in the spring of 2005. With a more laid-back sound than MacKaye's earlier work (outside of some tracks on Fugazi's 1999 Instrument soundtrack) and a somewhat less angular approach than the Warmers, the Evens honed their hard-to-nail-down atmospheric folk-esque sound through extensive touring. In 2004, they contributed a song ("On the Face of It") to the Protest Records website, and their song "Vowel Movement" was featured on the Washington, D.C., kids show Pancake Mountain. The band planned to spend the better part of 2005 touring the U.S._

their label site

ian macKaye
of minor threat, embrace, fugazi
on baritone guitar and vocals

amy farina
of the warmers
on drums and vocals

_ben whitesides (guitar/vocals), darrell bourque (vocals/bass), murphy kasiewicz (vocals/guitar), and jake morris (drums) came together in 2001 after playing in various local portland bands. the quirky-pop foursome derived a heavy, rollicking sound. their song "the devil wears earplugs" marked the joggers' official debut on the Startime Supercuts compilation in early 2003._

around three minutes in.
that slight.
but not alarmed.

love that song but this isn't the verve...

_between thought and expression lies a lifetime_
a band that highly defines/inspires my musical taste.
raw, grit, ditch-rich dirt rock
+ lyrical poetry.

it's a god damn euphony!

i "found" this band the same time i "found" pavement. my life was changed forever and ever amen.

here are some bands that sound like they have been impressed upon.
ok, i give myself two minutes...

pavement
beck
modest mouse
stone roses
talking heads
radiohead
the flaming lips
the black lips
scout niblett
cat power
jane's addiction, perry perry perry...
cyhsy
franz
white stripes, jack jack jack
cold war kids
the howling hex
grizzly bear
veruca salt
the pixies
tapes n' tapes
someone still loves you BY
love as laughter, sam jayne
joggers
the strokes!

times up.

PEACE
one more! snowden.
and how about the verve?
and i know there is lots and lots...

scout niblett

emma louise niblett is an english singer/songwriter

6/20/07: Scout Niblett with Iggy & The Stooges -- Jarvis's Meltdown @ Royal Festival Hall, London

_scout niblett records with steve albini, has toured with cat power, and reduces audiences around the world to jibbering wrecks with the sheer force of her performances. a pretty girl in a wig, playing the drums and singing so loudly and gleefully it sounds like her lungs might burst: ‘it’s all for you!’ she yelps onstage, like a kid offering a present of slugs and petals and drawings. it’s all for you!_

her old label - secretly canadian

her new label - too pure

her own damn site

download some free mp3's here, including this one

here's a little something about them that was not written by me:

_...raunchy riffs, tasteful beats, a four-octave monotone and clever lyrical wit, centered on topics which seemed important at the time (blowing off work, getting f'd up, getting by, stealing girlfriends and keeping them.)_

_some stoner dude from a liberal arts college blogged that they sound like a cross between the velvet underground, sonic youth, the clean and the feelies on acid, in a blender, while having tom verlaine and moe tucker's modern love child._

following the 1994 dissolution of indie-pop cult faves _lync,_ singer/guitarist sam jayne formed the lo-fi solo project love as laughter.

breathe it in >>>>>> air + beck

beck is a musical genius, isn't he?

having previously worked in remixing "sexy boy" off of air's _moon safari_, he was asked to contribute to 10,000 hz legend.
when asked for the circumstances that brought them together, beck said "puberty."

when beck speaks, i listen.
he has much to say.

the lyrics to this aptly titled song are great. lost _and_ hopeful...

_i'm running after time and i miss the sunshine
summer days will come, happiness will be mine
i'm lost in my words, i don't know where i'm going
i do the best I can not to worry about things_

also on that album, "don't be light"

i posted lyrics in the comments section

the delgados
scottish, indie, 1994--2005
achingly beautiful melodies
soaring string arrangements
intricate waltztime rhythms

(named in honor of famed aggressive spanish cyclist, pedro delgado, a tour de france winner)

i once planned to move away with a man that i dated for several years. we broke up right before the move. i still planned on going, as did he. he threw away most of my paintings, screamed at me and accused me of stealing his "plans."

he lives there now,
i ended up here.
and we have ourselves a chat
every now and again.

ever hear the band snowden? now, i know some of you have cause they are awesome. they are also a local band here in atlanta. this is the first song i heard of theirs while listening to album88, georgia state radio.
that same day i was stuck in traffic on my way home.
i was listening to the same station.
they were giving away tickets to see snowden at the earl. what the heck? i was doing nothing but staring at the ass-back of a ginormous SUV.
i called once.
i won those tickets.
and i went to the show.
all i can say is jordan jefferes puts on one of the most intense displays of the body-beat-heave i have ever witnessed. it was fierce.

catch-22

the truth, my friends, is that stephen malkmus has never left us...

what a weekend.

one in which everything fell into its own place. tried to breathe it in.

out of many occurrences, a show saturday night. outside music park, perfect temperature. love as laughter, sam jayne, in amber, great, great, great. trademark of quality.
_yes, i did ask him to sign it...
and no, i can't help it_

ok. man man. experimental rock. GREAT PERFORMANCE> try to see these guys if possible. white white. add energy, drums, face paint, mania and mix.

_all dressed up and going going going_

and the last. i danced danced all night long. the best part of that show. specifically, the best part for me was listening to johnny marr on old songs like styrofoam boots. excellent.
it was soooo good. a solid performance and i am ever so fortunate to have seen it. i was intoxicated. i was sober and i was smiling the whole time.

_here's johnny

that is just one marvelous line from this marvelous song. below

elvis perkins according to wiki: (born 1975) is a folk-rock singer-songwriter. he is the son of actor anthony perkins and photographer berry berenson.

*anthony perkins died of aids in the earl nineties and berry berenson died on one of the planes that hit the world trade center. listen to the titled song _ash wednesday_ with that knowledge.

:: menomena in the drunken unicorn ::

so i've been spending many days lately inside a right triangle. it's a long story but seriously. a house. that's a right triangle. with a smaller right triangle courtyard in the center. but i got out last night. and i went to the drunken unicorn and i saw menomena live for the first time. and my ears bled. when we walked into this shit-hole that i love we saw three masked men playing something similar to.... klezmore music? without the brass. ever seen a baby baby grand piano? ladies and gents, the midwives...
:

band #2, loud and thumping and hey.. i recognize that deep and hollow voice. jordan jeffares (of snowden) new project. i do love how he performs, very powerful folks. their first live performance, some dude jumped on stage and started dancing and then another dude jumped on and smashed ~something~ into the other guys face, and then another guy smashed ~something green~ who threw cauliflower? seriously.

_screw faced jordan, recommended daily allowance_
then, before my fever totally knocked me on my ass, menomena. this band is fucking awesome live. and i want to add that danny seim has to be at least 6'9" tall and is my favorite : _lackthereof_
not to mention he completely rocked my socks off. my hips love a good drummer.

and b/c i love my concert tee's. i wore my metallica-inspired shirt to work today. here it is. soory for the shoddy pic, but i didn't want anyone walking by and seeing me take a picture of my rack.

i had a great weekend. however, i will only type up my music related fun fun fun. saw my buddies band play friday night (QUENCH) and they rocked the house, they added a rhythm guitarist and it sounded great! yay for adam!

_quench_

saw parade, say hi to your mom, +/-, and bishop allen on saturday. i actually went to see bishop allen, but was disappointed with their show and man did they grow arrogant over the last 5 years. (i guess it had to happen sooner or later) i got some good photos though. say hi to your mom was good and the guy (eric) was really nice, we chatted and laughed and he danced around me for a bit (he also sold me a shirt earlier and i thought it was him but didn't dare ask...) parade reminded me of the breeders, she sounded like kim deal too. the band that blew us all away was plus/minus. the drummer was freaking amazing, had some weird time changes, i could barely dance to it! we went home, i made the boys scrambled eggs on wheat bagels, smoked and went to bed.

_say hi_

i got tickets for saturday night at this local venue, the earl. one of my favorite venues here in atlanta. i bought these tickets to see a band that i have been a fan of since its infancy: bishop allen. i posted about them a lil while ago and you can find it here if you care: http://mog.com/kaleef/blog_post/48423

however, i find that there are 2 other bands touring with them. +/- (plus/minus) and say hi to your mom. i like plus/minus so that was a bonus. now, say hi to your mom. the name? apparently they named themselves "...after Midwestern dairy queen civility." or a friend suggested it to them...

if you want to know more check 'em out here on their website (which is pretty funny): ttp://www.sayhitoyourmom.com/biography.htm

or on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Say_Hi_To_Your_Mom

i can't upload my favorite of theirs (prefers unhappy endings), but i posted a good one that i downloaded from their website: http://www.sayhitoyourmom.com/music.htm

here they are playing a little ditty for your pleasure only.

i don't know about you, but i have obsessive tendencies. music and boyfriends (the good ones) ~ i become immersed. concerning music: i find one song that i can listen to over and over again, desperate for a bit, _then_ give the rest of the album a chance. and so it goes, i cannot give anything else a fair shot until this said obsession has subsided. it would be nice to float on and dig several songs from a band and move forward to the next band... and the next... and. i would loose myself in this dizzing pace. i note that many of you can, i cannot. the difference is indifferent.

i have about 4 bands on stand-by for noise replenishment...

the ponys are first in line after my current relationship.

i found this band purely by chance last year. driving my daily commute of curvy, hilly roads, listening to the local college station (album 88) i heard "over and over" for the first time. downloaded it that night and seriously played that song, well over and over and over again. five guys. here they are all playing the guitar.

and here they are performing for you

and last night i dreamt that i was driving and my car flew off the tree limb and we slowly fell down. i killed my best friend and my head landed in the dirt. but i told her i loved her right before impact.

_christian rudder_

this is christian rudder. he, along with justin rice, make up the heart and soul of Bishop Allen. if you are hip, you may remember christian in such projects as "Poor-Spelling Children Pay Dearly for 'Letters to Satan'" or the "Date My Sister Project" and others back in the late 1900's and the early 2000's when he used to work for the now defunct TheSpark.com. in college, i checked that page every day, found that i will die when i am 78, that my "true" political self is a socialist, and was informed that if you leave a plate full of varietal meats that it takes a week for your neighbors to find it in their backyard... http://www.stinkymeat.net/

the point is thespark.com is my old MOG, it was meaningful to me!

anywho, he met justin at harvard and they formed The Pissed Officers, a punk band where there website had shown 4 members. christian and christian pretending to be his own twin brother and justin and justin pretending to be his own twin brother all dressed in ninja attire. these guys are funny, smart and so fucking interesting. both christian and justin each have been in an andrew bujalski flick (Funny Ha-Ha and Mutual Appreciation, respectively)

last year, still unsigned* they put out one CD per month, usually 4 songs long, to finance their tour. you would think that's implausible, but oh no, this band pulled it off in a way only the truly empassioned and motivated can. only minor growing pains with sheer energy/enthusiasm. plus their artwork is solid. yes, i bought them all at $5 a pop. i think my favorite month was march... yes, i have a personal relationship with this band (although it isn't reciprocated...) and yes, i want everyone to listen. i thought a little back story may make you more interested.

*they JUST got signed~with secretly canadian, i think

oh, and i get to see them again at the end of march! w00p!

first off, i don't like to post negatively about any one band. however, my inspiration for this mog came from an ardent dislike of a band that i _should_ like but don't. i don't have love for the decemberists. i have listened but cannot get passed colin meloy's voice. which leads me to the figurines. similar sound to the decemberist's, but, i think, better.

:: i saw KANSAS last night ::

last night i saw the band KANSAS up in gwinette county. my friend chad is the bands touring sound engineer and he got approx. 50 tickets to give away and some ALL ACCESS ones too! the venue-named "wild bill's"- held about 1000 (?) kansas fans. the varietal mix of folks was the biggest surprise (well, maybe second to thinking that the bands violin player was a chick and when she finally turned around mid-song i found out she was actually a 40-something _he_...) there were 16 year old indie-punks, mid-50Men rocking hard front-row singing every word, brassyBlondes shaking heads and booties, twentySomethings drinking heineken and pbr. (rolling rock for me please!) and mullet-heads of all ages. you had girls in turtle necks with bangs and leatherRockers sporting silver tongues. two hands to rock! the one commonality i observed (and i am saying something without saying anything) was that everyone i saw was white. on non-kansas nights this largeBar is where the country fans go to line-dance and, oh yes, ride the mechanical bull. they even have their own smoking lounge where you will sure to get an extra-large helping of second-hand smoke. it must have had 20 bars. wait! here's what:

ok, so back to kansas... i had a BACKSTAGE PASS and an AFTER SHOW PASS so here's one of those!!:

_does anyone understand why there are 2 old ladies on this pass?_

that being said, i don't know anything about kansas except for the song "dust in the wind." i didn't know, say, that the band has been touring for 33 years. or that they are a progressive rock band. this is not my style of music, but i remember hearing 2 songs of theirs on the radio when i was a kid. the association with some bands, like the beatles, the stones, paul simon, grateful dead and especially the eagles, my mother
loved the eagles- is so strong, i can remember visual moments spent looking up and over the car dash at the telephone lines, or the carpet in the back bed of my dad's white toyota pick-up, or sitting watching the fireworks on the 4th and seeing a fallen piece of firework land on a blanket about 40 feet from us and catch on fire. car-aziness!!! so it was so weird and sooo cool at the same time to see this band that has somehow wiggled it's way in to my psyche, live. nope, i am not going to download their album, or buy a concert ticket, but when i heard "carry on my wayward sOOoounnn..." on the classic rock station* this morning i smiled wide, and sang the only line i knew.

*THE RIVER -radio station was there last night too! enjoying the classic rock live action.

for those of you wondering where some actualy concert pictures are, i have to tell you that i don't ever bring my digicam out when i am drinking. i have had 2 cameras disappear, so i bring disposable ones. but if anyone wants to see some pictures of the band members asses and my friend chad on the console, let me know and i will be sure to scan some in.

oh yeah, here's another for you! boo-yah!

if you are ever so lucky to see him live you will not be disappointed. he is beautiful and creative. intriguing and sensitive. handsome and clever. talented and honest. i met him at the varitey playhouse when he was touring with band of horses last september. he handed me a handful of pins that he himself designed. here is one that is attached to my purse:

i have a little man. his name is oliver and he walks on all fours. last night i was wathcing him sleep-chasing something in his dreams. i started thinking he would have a wonderfully charming proper english accent, if he could speak. i can imagine him reading walt whitman, george manbiot and noam chomsky. if he could read. smoking cigars. and if he could, he would tell me in his self-effacing manner that his favorite band is and has always been radiohead. he appreciates my joggers and he would tell me how much he likes death cab. and i tell him that it's not cool to let other people know that (since we are music snobs.) privacy listening oli! i was inspired last night. i started his portrait.

hi! since i like it here... i thought i would share a nice warm and toasty shot with you all (especially for those up north-although it was 16 this morning here in atl.) i took it the morning of my last day as a key west resident. so this shot is what a sunrise looks like at the very southernmost tip of united states mainland. ow, my heart. i think i hear conor lamenting...

:: everything was beautiful and nothing hurt ::

new to atlanta, i find myself finding comfort in the familiarity of my music. mine being the best evolved music out there!. i come from old hippies that divorced and seperated into 2 diffferent somethings. but, the one thing they shared was this true love for music, beat and soul. beatles first, then the police, then grateful dead, then metallica's one, then beck, then there is void filled with mc hammer and vanilla ice, then came pearl jam/soundgarden/nirvana/smashing pumpkins/nine inch nails/tool/and i know i am forgetting someone i will surely regret not adding. then came radiohead. and i was devoted to radiohead for years. everything after never held a flame to creep or/then just, i was in love. karma police, paranoid android, every single song on that album is honest, intriguing, evocative, powerful rock. every song. kid a and amnesiac. i was still riding the school bus. i remember hearing dave matthews "satellite" the first time on a college radio station and i went out and bought that cd. still one of my favotie cd's. modest mouse-which i think is one of the best bands ever. in the history books there will be a few elite and i vote modest mouse... blur, coldplay's parachute ( i saw them live in dublin at the point-the whole thing was general admission and i was 5' away from the stage)

either way, now with the internet and digital downloading i find so many new bands! and that is exactly and the reason i am here. i want to reach out to you, especially if you have read this far. i love music, i love live shows, oh! check out 'snowden' they are a local band here and i saw them live in small venue and they floored me. they are similar to the sound of interpol, but the lead-jordan jeffares- is awesome to watch live. i have never seen anything like him (except when i saw sonic youth play an encore with stephen malkmus), and i just saw forward russia RIGHT before with the whole microphone cord thing and his performance was so much more... powerful. or something better.

some favorites are radiohead, beck, stephen malkmus, anything ben gibbard mulls, joggers (they are great), chad vangaalen, band of horses, snowden, interpol, talking heads, conor oberst/bright eyes, beta band/steve mason, the shins, kim deal, beth orton, clap your hands say yeah!, all the other bens', hot chip, emma pollock/the delgados, built to spill, simple kid, white stripes, lo-fi!, reverb!, rogue wave, margot and the nuclear so and so's and there are so much more, but not enough either

and i am an environmentalist and this ship is sinking.
