This morning's listening selection was Little Heart's Ease from the Canadian alt-country group, Royal City. I don't normally go for biblical references in my music, but the overall effect was good enough for me to let it play, and I was happy. It's not the kind of album I would tell people to run out and buy, but I'd gladly play it at a social setting and let others soak it in for a while. I like that it wasn't entirely polished, and it was downright sloppy at parts, and it while it didn't stand out, the songs reminded me of good, downtempo, alt-country tunes, filled with some of the beauty that can only be expressed by the brokenhearted. As most reviewers have seen it, this isn't even the band's best album, so I think I'll check out their first two albums next.
If I catch a good album on the way home, I might even pull a double post today.

Thanks for the Tarkio hint - I hadn't looked them up yet and liked what I heard. As far as other alt-country recs, it's such a hard genre to pinpoint, but the classic bands are Whiskeytown, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Wilco, The Jayhawks, and a few others I can't think of off hand. I prefer the Old 97s the most, but they are much more uptempo overall in comparison to Tarkio.
I might need to cry for help on this one.
