Evil Genius DJ Green Lantern

Posted over 5 years ago
Havent posted in a minute, but wanted to come back with a banger produced by DJ Green Lantern, who has a growing list of songs to his credit. The latest is off Busta Rhymes' new album, The Big Bang. Green has been known on the mixtape circuit for about 10 years, and lately your man is dropping gems in NYC on the production tip. His previous best was Ludacris' "Number One Spot", which featured a sample of "Soul Bossanova" by Quincy Jones. On this track he teams up with Dr. Dre to apply layers of urgent horns and piles of drums to the track, which is supported by samples of the late Rick James, bitch! Busta does his thing-thing, and overall it's a quality hip hop joint, and well produced. What does that have to do with anything, you ask? Well, it turns out Green is a friend of a friend, and he's making major career moves lately, and gaining a lot of visibility. I met him this week in LA, where he was doing a cameo in Busta's video, and preparing to DJ a party in Hollywood. We had a chance to chop it up and the guy is super humble. Keep an eye out for Green, he's blowin up in the world, Son!

  2. richiesteelo says That's cool glad to hear he's a good guy and that the career is taking off again. I felt bad for him how shit went down with him and the whole Shady/GUnit camp after that ill fated voicemail congratulating Jadakiss on dissing 50 ended up in a dvd. Especially because he's not on Shade45 anymore, he was the best thing on there. In my opinion he's one of, if not the, best mixtape DJ of all time, the Invasion series was 3 of the best mixtapes I've ever listened to. Jada's The Champ is Here and Beanie Sigel's Public Enemy #1 are way up there too. Any word on his solo album? I assume it isn't coming out on Shady anymore. Invasion 2 is probably my favorite. It didn't leave my car for months when I got it.

  3. joshuaseth says Your man has skills for sure. We were talking about final scratch and serato, and he doesn't use them. Still hauling 100's of lbs of vinyl everywhere he goes, and not working with CDs. Props for not taking the easy way out, although he may switch it up at some point. I missed out on the Invasion series, but I've peeped his Roc mix tapes, and Public Enemy #1 is fiyah. He is a creative and smart DJ, knows how to warm you up and keep it familiar to you while also breaking new shit you never heard. As for Hip Hop beef and everything, he made his name breaking dis records and helping folks take sides so he has to take the whole Shady Records beef standing up. In any case now he's working for rap's CEO and it appears his album will be released on Def Jam. Plus, the CEO is going on a vanity tour this fall ( locations hes never been to and wants to go ), and from the way it sounded Green's going to be the DJ. It may not be a huge payday, but when your spinning "Big Pimpin'" with the Pyramids behind you and The Boss is rhyming, that's living Son.
