WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Slow day at work

Posted over 2 years ago
Yep, I gotta work on this holiday. Luckily just till 1, then I can spend the rest of the afternoon working on organizing my hard drive, making Bree's Mirah CD, and sowing the button back onto my peacoat. And I have tomorrow off! We're listening to Lifehouse at work. Remember them? The first time I ever heard them was during our family vacation back when I was 16 (six years ago?!). We went on one of those Disneyworld cruises. At first I was real shy, stuck close to my family, and didn't think much about trying to meet anybody new. But I think it was the second night a random girl ran up to my brother-in-law and I, grabbed my hand, and took me to the room where all the teenagers were hanging out. It turned out to be a great time and I met a lot of people. Anyway, point being, this kid who was hitting on an Australian girl played Lifehouse for her. And I always think of Jessica when I hear this band because of a time my mom made me go with her to bring Jessica a birthday cake. When we got to their house Lifehouse was playing. I later told Jessica about it and she admitted to hating their music and that it was her brother who had picked it out. It's just funny how music you don't even like can bind itself to memories you love.Moving along...I'm excited! I got the new Shins, !!! (thanks AJ!), Bloc Party, and Explosions In The Sky, and all the Sherwood possible! How can I get more out of MOG? I trust people, poke around on their pages looking for new music, read all my trusted MOG's posts, and when I have nothing else to do I scroll through MOS. Anything else I can do to benefit more from this wonderful site?

  1. MrFrost says I feel you on the memories binding themselves to your memories. One of the things Im constantly reminded of, on my summer trips in grade school, is this god damned garth brook songs that the neighbors played.......... I dont even like country, but i cant think of summer vacation without hearing it in my head "well i got friends in looooooooooooooooow places...."

  2. Kate says One thing I would suggest to "get more out of MOG" is to visit people's pages who have taste you like, or are into music you are really unfamiliar with and ask them if they want to do a Mix CD exchange. I've gotten many awesome mixes from cool moggers and discovered even more music through them.

  4. Lyla says whenever i think about that song, i remember how i wasn't allowed to listen to it when my (now ex) boyfriend was around, because it depressed him. so 3 years after we broke up, i finally got to listen to it the whole way through, and while it isn't that great, i don't see why it's depressing.

  5. haggardpilot says I so intensely tie music to memories constantly. probably the best example in the whole 'music you don't really like' category is Brandy & Monica's "The Boy Is Mine". that will always, always remind me of my senior year trip to Valleyfair (amusement park in Minnesota) where I hung out with kids two years younger than me and spoke ebonics. I was amazing. actually, this also reminds me of something that happened yesterday. we were listening to the Faint at work and while I was ringing a guy up 'Paranoiattack' came on and I turned to Kris and said THIS IS MY FAVORITE FAINT SONG OF ALL TIME and then started dancing. and Kris laughed and was like, "I didn't know that! but I do now! and so does that guy! and he will know for the rest of his life!" and I turned to him and said "anytime you ever hear this song, for the rest of your life, you will think of FYE" and he agreed.

  6. whencitiesfalll says Aw man, I love Lifehouse, many many good memories tied to them...mostly camping memories..they were one of my main "camping bands" along with James Taylor and, yes, Evan and Jaron. I was young, cut me a break? Oh and while you're doing the whole sewing buttons back on peacoats thing, you could always do mine as well. If you're feeling generous. The bastard doesn't close right without it =\
