Rap artists still a bad influence for children.

Lil Wayne was found the other day to be found in possession of a gun right after finishing his debut show at the Beacon Theatre in New York. I don't know what other people think, but I think that some of these rap artists just keep sending out the wrong image to kids. No wonder the incidence of youth Yobbism is constantly on the rise. When young kids see these images on the TV of grown adults treating people like crap and not showing any respect they absorb this information like a sponge. None of it is questioned by their underdeveloped brain. Really organisations and the government should do more to limit youth exposure to this media. It's no wonder people are afraid to go out on the streets at night - fearing that you might be held at gunpoint by some yob!!What do you think????!?!??? (think of Eminem as a prime example of this lack of responsibility.)

  1. BenJourn85 says I guess it is a problem when a kid is saying that hip-hop artist are bad influnces for kids. I think that hip-hop is responsible for many ills in society, but I don't think that there should be any government control over the music. I think artists have a responibility to thei fans through their music, but I think their personal lives are just that. People do wrong things, and I don't think that the problems that hip-hop artists commit should be magnified. Lindsay Lohan got arrested for Cocaine and DUI again today. Who is the bigger star, Lindsay Lohan or Lil Wayne? The music can not be censored. Think of it this way: If you look to censor a whole genre, you have to look at the entire genre, and not just the negative rappers. Rappers have the potential to speak for people they represent and at times they do that well. Wayne had an amazing song in response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster called "Georgia...Bush" You just have to take the good with the bad...Unfortunately.

  2. Scribes4life says i agree with ben. one person... three people... not even 15 people in hip hop can be held entirely responsible for what's going on in the world (in their own communities for that matter). the environments that we live in have run down and dangerous since before DJ Kool Herc or Run DMC or 2Pac or Wayne. knowing they're in the public eye should cause people to be more guarded, but ultimately, these rappers/emcees are (to some extent) doing what they know. they write about the ills of their society and their experiences within that area; they act outta line because that's how they survived, and (sometimes) in an immature fashion, refuse/don't know how to grow out of that behavior. if you really think about ALL the music that's out there, you should know there are positive people behind the mic. there are people saying uplifting things and rapping with reason. you don't see that on television or hear it on the radio cause the system is about money. there's more money to be made with dumbed down lyrics relating to drugs, guns and misogyny than common, kweli, mos def, the roots, masta ace, pharoahe monch or anybody could generate *combined*. not to say that any one of these artists are perfect, but they are infusing the music with intelligence and messages. don't get me wrong, i agree that kids shouldn't be listening to wayne or snoop, but it's ultimately the parents' responsibilities to watch and listen to what their kids have on itunes, youtube, mtv, or whatever program. it's different when we talk teens, though. they can get it whether or not mom/pop says they're not supposed to; there needs to be a foundation in place. people need to listen with their kids and help them understand why a certain artist is more listened to than others; help them understand that there is a difference between what these artists say and what a lot of them actually do; and most importantly, help them become intelligent individuals so that when they buy a cd as a teen, they can say, his lyrics are wack, and he's not really talkin about anything besides ca$h and b!tches. if people as much blame on the outlets (Mtv, BET, VH1 - Flavor of Love???) as they put on the artists, maybe there'd be a little more growth away from the negative. maybe not. the world's all messed up, and i don't expect any one artist to make it better or worse. peace
