WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Todd Rundgren - Phases o' Life

Posted over 3 years ago
Todd Rundgren... how many times had I heard "we gotta get you a woman" while I was still single? How many times had I listened to the three Runt albums, thinking, "what I would give to be able to do that, to hear it unfold to the ears, to feel the satisfaction of making the sounds end to end"?Something/Anything was/is a pivotal album for me. Although some of the tunes on the three Runts can be trying of patience, almost the entire Something/Anything is a true chest of gems. It is a masterpiece, a Mona Lisa, a David, a work of proportion that can only be described in terms of Beethoven or Mahler.Todd's Liars is a much-unsung tour-de-force of emotion and intent. The stories are relevant, and the music is captivating. Although Liars isn't MTV material, it is worth of a real listen. Headphones are a plus. Lather, rinse, repeat.

  2. dermahrk says THREE Runts? I've got two - the noose photo and the one simply titled "Runt". Is there really a third?

  3. jimmybearpearson says Indeed, good question. Runt is in the title of his first two solo-everything albums. But Something/Anything is also a Todd-does-everything album, a follow-on to Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren. Most folks I've known through the years (ones who are Rundgren fans) consider Something/Anything to be a virtual Runt. A matter of opinion, I guess...
