The sound is part of the story - Life Soundtracks

Posted over 3 years ago
I'm constantly amazed and gratified that music is a part of many stories. Some sounds become soundtracks to our lives. Yet others become the music of work, play, or coincide with some event in our lives (up or down).Thinking back to the last time we went to a movie, I can't imagine what it would be like to see a movie where music didn't make the movie complete - palpable, believable, memorable. The violins might tell us that some tension is getting ready to break loose... the acoustic guitar tells us a bittersweet story of "can't go home again." Interestingly enough, some of the best love, and some of the saddest times in my life have been soundtracked by ELP's Brain Salad Surgery. Still... You Turn Me On, C'est La Vie, and Lucky Man. ELP had a way of making the words scintillate with life, emotion and flow. Although many musicians have tried to do the same thing, very few have even come close. So, soundtracks can really make something come alive... even stories and slide presentations...Mrs. Bear's writing a story for one of her college courses (back to school! So proud!)... she asked me to explain her story with music. I was overjoyed to oblige. Her story tells of a young fellow who finds that he has extraordinary talents and capabilities, sixth sense, keen eyesight, strength, valor, courage. Her soundtrack goes through the 5 phases of the boy's growth. I chose driving rhythm, dance-feel percussion, and chose the confluence of warm comfortable bass, bright-and-broad sound palette keyboards, and brassy-string sounds to explain the transfiguration of the boy's mind as he learned his soul. (Headphone friendly) Throughout the impression, a relentless and consistent rhythm-thrum of life sound flows throughout. To me, it tells his story, and Mrs. Bear loves it... Somehow, in the back of my mind, it always falls woefully short of the mind soundtracks to which I've grown accustomed to over my life's basic span. The expression of emotion is as fleeting as an afternoon's sunset.Morph... on the hacked-together JBP Mogger page (refresh if you've already been there):http://jimmybearpearson.com/mog/
