I just can't get enough.

This is not new. It is not even anywhere remotely being fresh. But I just can't help myself. Sufjan Stevens is so incredible. His music puts me in an ineffable state in which I can neither express myself eloquently or clearly. Everytime I listen to any of Sufjan's music, I swear, it truly is like I am hearing it for the first time. It's a magic I have never felt before in my life. It's so transcendent and profound that it makes me feel everything. Every positive, powerful feeling that exists...I feel it. It's like in that episode of Freaks & Geeks when the Dead Heads say to Lindsay after the guidance counselor gives her a Grateful Dead record: "I'm so jealous that you get to hear that album for the first time." Yeah, honestly, I feel giddy and childish and immaculate every time I listen to Sufjan. Cheesy. Potentially. But always amazing. It takes me back to so many wonderful experiences I have had in my life. Road trips, friendships, danger, youth, magic, love, tears, sadness, death, kites, late nights, everything. I mean, listening to the one horrible live recording my friends and I had of "Majesty Snowbird" in my car at 2:30 am driving back from San Francisco along 280 blasting it as loud as we possibly could...wow. It's moments like that that make me glad I'm okay. (We now have many multiple fantastic recordings of "Majesty Snowbird".)So yeah. This probably all sounds really lame and stupid but that's what good music does to me. I become flustered and awkward. And lame. Always lame. That is all.

  1. deadmandeadman says I cannot say that i'm a fan of Mr Stevens, What i've heard is pleasant enough, but your transcendent attempt to articulate a very special magical meloncholy state of being is a delight to read. Thanx for this.

  3. disco says I was too, a late comer with Sufjan Stevens, sadly. I adore Illinoise, I mean seriously worship that album. Subsequently I have been re-hooked on Freaks and Geeks, how odd.
