What's So Funny 'bout Peace, Love and Understanding
Did you guys ever hear the demo version of Elvis Costello's mini-hit "What's So Funny ('bout Peace, Love and Understanding)?"As you may know, it was actually written by pub-rock/pre-punk legend Nick Lowe while he was part of the UK's much ballyhooed group Brinsley Schwarz. Decades later, after all the hype has faded, the song stands of one of the greats of our generation. I think about the kids...
I'm really at a loss on this one. I mean I LOVED the CI record when it hit my orbit in the early 80's. Had the groove of New Order without the pretension, the stylishness of Ultravox, but with real songs... edgy but approachable. But now, years later, do they still hold up? I still get a kick from most of the songs - but I am I just wallowing in sentiment? Was there something timeless there?
