Jorge Ben - Africa Brasil

Posted over 2 years ago

For me the best album of Brasil!

With Africa Brazil, launched in 1976, Jorge Ben it overflew in creativity in way to as many influences, as the touch rock that the guitar gave to the songs. This is a pure Samba Rock!

What's the instrument that makes the "whooping" sound?

This instrument is a cuíca! Look the link man: http://emiliano.com/cuica.html

it makes an optimum sound! It is instrument of Rio De Janeiro, very used in the carnival!

Nice song.  Classic Brazil sound.  I was still curious about how the sound is made.  Since it was a drum head, I thought pulling something through it, maybe.  Found this Video.

The hand inside pushes and pulls the stick and the hand on the outside determines the pitch by pressing on the head.  I guess the speed and pressure of the stick also changes the pitch and sound.  Growl -- Squeek.

This exactly Spike, is a pole that it pulls and pushes with a hand, and with the other it pressures the skin of the musical instrument! I had a small one, I I caught a wet cloth to leave the sound! I only lost... ehauheuasesauhae! Thanks a lot musical brothers! He has more to see...

I recall similar wild sounds on José Felciano's "Alive Alive-O! LP/CD release. (As I recall, this instrument could whimper like a dog or sound like the ultimate f**t.)
