WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

Artist:

I'm working on a mix of songs, essentially my favorite one from each of my favorite albums, and it's going really slowly. Still if you visit multiply, you'll be able to hear

Kelley Stoltz "Words" Sonic Youth "Pink Steam" Mission of Burma "Spider" Oneida "History's Great Navigators" Califone "The Orchids" Bardo Pond "Destroying Angel" Man Man "Black Mission Goggles" Parts & Labor "The Great Divide"

Terrible Transition Alert!!!

Current 93 "Idumea (with Shirley Collins)" Wovenhand "Dirty Blue" Clogs "Lantern" Shearwater "Seventy-Four, Seventy-Five" Azalia Snail "Mint Stallion" Alejandro Escovedo "Notes on Air" Heartless Bastards "I Swallowed a Dragonfly" Vetiver "You May Be Blue"

With a few more to come when I get a chance. Here's a link:

Ooh, ooh. I do that every year too. Sometimes I do a 2 disc top 40. This year, it will likely be a top 20; I didn't love all that many albums this year...

Spencer, what are you liking from this year?

And, Michael, yes, Califone...fantastic. Have you heard any of Heron King, their album from before Roots & Crowns? It's wonderful, too, and it's apparently one long meditation on Beefheart and how the blues can be warped into strange and amazing shapes.

Red Red Meat...yeah, I keep hearing about them, but not hearing them. May have to do a little search-engine-diving in the WFMU archives.

I did get the first Califone EP a year or two ago...much more abrasive and full of found sounds, interesting, but not as accessible as the ones I'm familiar with.

If you go to:

And ff to about 28:17 you can hear "Chain Chain Chain" ...still that voice, but much more distorted rock in the music.

(If you listen to the whole set from the beginning, you also get my very favorite Who song.)

The meddling DJ in me would take the second half of the list and put it at the top. Or you could release it on a double album - gatefold...go for gatefold. Other than that, it's a really good list.

And no live music(Asobi Seksu) for me tonight. I am dog tired and my co-pilot's busy. I need to get some sleep and clean the house tomorrow before my show.

Jack, you're so right. That would totally fix it as a mix. Thanks Mr. DJ...too bad about Asobi Seksu.
