SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Low, "Drums & Guns"

Posted over 2 years ago
Everybody’s favorite slo-core minimalists are back with a beautiful, intense, politically-relevant album called Drums and Guns, out last week on Sub Pop. Here’s a bit from my Dusted review: “Drums and Guns has a sparse, understated beauty to it, electronically-generated rhythms under otherworldly harmonies, and subtle violence buried in the words. It's dark, lovely and slow to blossom, but leaves an impression once it does. Here are uneasy beauties, shot with anxiety but transported by harmony, Low's meditation on disturbing times.” (And more here: http://www.dustedmagazine.com/reviews/3447)MP3 of “Breaker”http://www.subpop.com/assets/audio/3106.mp3

  5. newusedrecords says Thanks for the link to the mp3 ... i must've fallen behind in my listening and missed out on this when it came out. Really seems like they just get better with age.

  6. BarrieSutcliffe says I agree, this is a fantastic new record. I'm impressed that Low has decided to branch their sound out after their definitive statement "Trust." It takes balls to realize it's time to change your sound. Their last record was pretty good but this one is solid. The songwriting is really strong.

  7. schedule two says i really love the song "dragonfly." probably my favorite on the album. i'll be filming the cd release show in minneapolis next month, and if we're very lucky, get to post a few songs online. but no promises. either way, i'm excited to see the new songs live.
