WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Did I tell you I got booted from the Iron Horse this weekend?

Normally, this would be the place where I'd tell you all about seeing Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors over the weekend...however, due to a series of miscommunications, personal insults and threats of bodily harm, I did not see Grizzly Bear on Saturday, and instead got kicked out of the Iron Horse this weekend. So, I got this email from Ed Droste yesterday, and I'm not mad anymore...at Grizzly Bear anyway. The show was packed, as it should be...Yellow House is gorgeous and if you haven't checked it out yet, you should. My forgiving mood can't quite extend to that guy at the door of the IH, though...fucker. Ed was my last-ever interview at Splendid, and you can read what we talked about here: http://www.splendidmagazine.com/features/grizzlybear There are some RA streams from his first album, which I reviewed about a year before anyone had heard of him. Here's the nice email.Greetings---When I heard you were coming to the show I was quite excited to finally meet you after our interview a long time ago, then I heard from the door people there was an altercation (the venue workers were TERRIBLE and delayed with the door/sound checks, everything and didn't get the list from us immediately) but we ran up to give it to them as soon as we could and by then it was too late. I was hoping Frank had had your phone number, but sadly he didn't.So sorry they were so mean. They were really rude to us and to the Dirty Projectors (particularly them).Shame you missed the show. It would have been nice to meet!Wish you'd come back but I heard from a girl at the venue the owner/ manager asked you to leave!??!So crazy!!Well needless to say we aren't playing there again. That said the show was actually nice.Hope this finds you well.bestedward

  1. goodmusiconly says Jenny, you really need to stop bullying those bouncers. ; ) I'm unfamiliar with these guys, I will take a listen. They get my vote for beautiful tour posters ... check these out!

  2. jenny says Yeah, I've got to get my temper under control. What I did, actually, to merit getting tossed, was to ask if they could go down and ask the tour manager if there was a list, and if I might be on it. Oh, I asked twice...that was it, I guess. It was really cold out there where they wanted us to wait, maybe 20 degrees. We were standing next to a girl who was trying to cover the show for her MIT paper, and she'd been stiffed in Boston the night before, then came to Northampton to try again, and got screwed there, too. I can see how this sounds whiny....Guest list is a privilege and all that, but I would have bought tickets if they hadn't been so nasty (although it might have been sold out, not really sure). Not to overestimate my personal importance (which, god knows, is pretty slight) but there wouldn't have *been* that many people at the show without people *like* me...people who write about new music before it gets popular and keep talking about it until the rest of the world catches up. When you crap on people who care and work really hard for nothing to try to find new music, you're crapping on the pipeline that makes sold-out shows like that possible.

  3. jenny says Oh, the other thing is that I see they're playing some shows with Papercuts...who are well worth checking out, too.
