   emit says OHFG, cumbias!!! A very, very ignored musical style, indeed. The funny thing about this track is that it is actually a cover of an instrumental piece which was a bit of a hit in Spain back in the 1970's - "Palomitas de maíz", or "Popcorn" - , but, to be honest, I'm sure I've heard it also in other contexts, so I really can't pin-point the exact source. Speaking of cumbias, the weird, off-kilter, totally-out-there-a-minute-and-back Dutch performance artist Dick Verdult (also known under the name "Dick el Demasiado") has turned the cumbia into a kind of signature art form. He's recorded a number of records of bad-ass, surreal cumbias, which he calls his "cumbias lunáticas". Worth checking out, even if you don't really get into him.     fistula spume says Maybe one day I will record it. My tongue gets tired towards the end. The hard part is the high notes at the break where there's no corn popping. That Roots of Chica looks good. I think I have some of that on a two disc 60's Peruvian psyche comp I got. BTW I got your cd in the mail today so expect something fun this week.
