Guess what...I went to see Mission of Burma AGAIN!!!

Mission of Burma Live in BostonPearl StreetNorthampton, MA USASeptember 21, 2007by Jennifer Kelly When is a reunion show not a reunion show?Maybe when a legendary post-punk band — out of commission for a couple of decades and then miraculously back — decides that it no longer has to play its best-known songs in the course of a night. (That's right, a Mission of Burma show with no "That's When I Reach for My Revolver", no "Photograph".) Maybe when said band sticks to its kicking phase two albums for the main set, only dragging out the (equally kicking) historical curios for a double encore. Welcome to Mission of Burma 2.0, emphatically on, unapologetically here and now, and not the least bit interested in your nostalgia trip. "We wrote this song in 1914," cracks Peter Prescott from behind his Plexiglas playpen, as the band launches into the bonus round's "Academy Fight Song." Not quite, but surely plausible to the non-drinking-age teens slamming their bodies against each other in the back, as yet oblivious to time and history and the joys of a second wind. This is the fourth time I've seen Burma play since they got back together, and pretty much every time, they seem fiercer, more focused and less self-conscious. What seemed like a lark back in 2004 is now an ongoing commitment. "Fuck it, why not?" has transformed into a juggernaut with its own momentum. What can you say when the front three rows are kids, all rallying for "1001 Dreams" and "2wice" and "Spider's Web" from the band's latest The Obliterati? Except maybe history is bunk. Maybe right now is all that matters. More here:http://www.harpmagazine.com/reviews/concert_reviews/detail.cfm?article=10454

i just say them Friday and it was truly awe-inspiring music they were performing. burma was saying that it has made reforming all the better that kids are still the crowd and are enjoying the new songs just as much as the old.
