Not to take the legs out from under those who labor over their artist's one-sheets - as they should, right? - but it's usually the audio files that help me make up my mind about a forthcoming release. That said, I still have a sizable vulnerability to any Elliott Smith mention, so consider yourself golden should you insert the songwriter's name as an immediate reference point, above the label affiliation or in what basement the musician artlessly cultivated his sound. A publicist's ready catalogue is one thing but such comparisons should also fit its subject. Jeff Hanson does, possessing what could only be called a supernal falsetto (much higher than Smith's but equally affecting). The cover art pictured here is for Hanson's second Kill Rock Stars release. His web site has two songs available from his solo 2003 debut for the label _Son_. "Hiding Behind the Moon" elicits a similar aching cadence and lyrical affinity between head and heart: "Well if I were you I'd be wiser / To the sounds that make you up / And if only time was longer / I'd be gone." Hanson's guitar arrangement intuits the sad-lovely perfectly, affirming both a new talent and, still, just how much his apt familiar is missed. http://www.jeffhanson.net/http://www.jeffhanson.net/MP3s/HidingBehindMoon.mp3http://www.jeffhanson.net/MP3s/JustLikeMe.mp3

Thanks memo57,
I was a little confused by the press packet, so I contacted Hanson myself. He confirmed that there is a third album due on KRS in 2007. And I agree: that other one is very good.
