Tom Waits

Posted about 5 years ago
Last night's Tom Waits show in Louisville was everything I expected it to be. The Palace Theatre is a beautiful place to see a show, especially when you have front row seats (not counting the three rows of ass-pain-inducing hotel-ballroom-type chairs of journalists and not-VIPs). I'm horrible with setlists, but there was a pretty heavy concentration of Mule Variations and Real Gone songs, and standards like "Tom Traubert's Blues," which was particularly nice. I was sorely disappointed in the rendition of "Get Behind The Mule," which was handled more capably by Chris Whitley fronting Gov't Mule a handful of years ago. More than anything, though, it was a *show*, and I mean that in the best possible way.The fact that the tickets were ultimately paid for with proceeds from selling a pair of Ryan Adams tickets on eBay for $295 made it that much sweeter. My list of must-see artists is now complete, and I'm kinda done with live music for a while.

  1. J-Rock says Wow... Tom Waits live is on my Things To Do Before I Die list. Near the top. Nice scalp on the Ryan tickets, too. The irony is delicious!

  2. BarrieSutcliffe says That would be incredibly exciting, and is also on my list of Things to do Before I Die. Just to hear that weird circus skronk in the flesh would be excellent.
