MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Album: Sound of Silver, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
(3)

Wow, didn't realize how long it had been since I had been here. Since then, I have seen TV on the Radio, which were just phenomenal. See them if they come anywhere near you. Tunde Adebimpe was into the show, dancin around and that made it more fun for everybody. After the disappointment that was the Gomez show, this show totally lifted my spirits. Subtle opened for them. I had never heard of the band and although I found the lead singer to be quite into the performance part of their act, the music they played was enjoyable. His voice was a little whiny at times though.

So the Modest Mouse and LCD albums are out...what's everybody think. I completely figured that the MM album would get trashed critically, just after the last album being so much of a mainstream success. We Were Dead... has been growing on me personally. I still enjoy Splitting Venom, Fire it Up, Steam Engenious and now Parting of the Sensory and a couple others are growing on me. I think my apprehension was based in the negative talks on the blogs prior to the album coming out. We will see how it does with time.

LCD Soundsystem's new one is just solid though. Every song is great to me. I talked about this in an earlier post and some comments so I wont go in depth with it. Just pick it up if you get the chance. Share your thoughts on both albums, I'm interested to know how they are received.

as foe LCD Soundsystem I couldn't agree more, I'm really happy with the new album, it's really damn good! As for MM though, I'm still in the catagorie of listening to it brings me not only mental, but physical pain. I guess I'm still just too much in love with what tehy used to be, I should move on, but I can't!

Max-

I totally know what you are saying about MM. I know I fell in love with them after Moon and Ant. and completely enjoy every part of that. I also feel that they are going to grow in other directions and although with better production you will get some sacrifices on the sound they used to have, you have to appreciate that Brock and Co. are still far better than half the bands that are out there. So yeah, I can totally understand the long time fans having problems with the new stuff and I appreciate that, but I also feel like after this many albums, many of us would tire if they just stayed the same...and in reality nobody can 'just stay the same'.

Pearl Jam always sticks out to me when this type of discussion comes up. I feel like if you listen to their albums they have pretty much stayed the same, but lost some appeal due to a lack of really seeking out any different sound. Now I'm no sound expert so that statement could be way wrong from another person's perspective, but I loved PJ back in the day and just grew tired with it after a while, although I still respect the hell out of them. I dont know, I think nowadays, you cant win for losin' and I still find things I appreciate about certain bands. MM continues to have that little somethin that nobody else can really give me. I hope they continue to give that in the future.

Thanks for the comment...good to hear your thoughts!
