Do Make Say Think announces extensive tour dates

Posted over 2 years ago
They're playing everywhere BUT my Uncle Mitch's favorite corner pub, for crying out loud. Except Providence. Go figure. Where's the love? I'll have to make my way up to Cambridge, alas.Key members of Do Make Say Think Charles Spearin and Ohad Benchetrit are the Canadian-bred backbone to Broken Social Scene which unquestionably meant they spent much of their time away from this band touring and recording (and re-recording) with the other.I caught this troupe open for BSS at one of their last tour stops this past November, and their sprawling, massive, multi-layered instrumentals did not fail to impress. I almost felt like I wanted to leave before BSS took the stage that night for fear that I would be disappointedafter such a great opening set. [Don't worry, I'm not THAT crazy!]As pitchfork describes "The Universe":Wasting no time getting to the point, the song's first few seconds find it charging from speakers like a bull from a rodeo pen, its thundering percussion and Benchetrit's surging guitarwork forming an immediate blitz to create an instantaneous momentum that sustains throughout the track's five-minute run. Do I see 23 straight days of touring????!!! That's a little loco, no?Do Make Say Think:07-01 Toronto, Ontario - Harbourfront Centre *07-28 Guelph, Ontario - Hillside Festival08-03 Antigonish, Nova Scotia - Evolve Festival08-05 Antigonish, Nova Scotia - Evolve Festival09-06 Guelph, Ontario - Mitchell Hall09-14 New York, NY - Lincoln Center09-15 Cambridge, MA - Middle East Downstairs09-16 Philadelphia, PA - Starlight Ballroom09-17 Washington, DC - Black Cat09-18 Carrboro, NC - Arts Center09-19 Asheville, NC - Grey Eagle Tavern #09-20 Charlotte, NC - Tremont Music Hall09-21 Athens, GA - 40 Watt Club09-22 Atlanta, GA - The Earl09-23 Jacksonville, FL - Jack Rabbits09-24 Orlanda, FL - The Social09-25 Gainesville, FL - Common Grounds09-26 Tallahassee, FL - Club Downunder09-27 Baton Rouge, LA - Chelsea's Cafe09-29 Houston, TX - Engine Room09-28 Austin, TX - Emo's09-30 Denton, TX - Hailey's10-01 Kansas City, MO - The Record Bar10-02 St. Louis, MO - The Billiken Club10-03 Nashville, TN - Exit In10-04 Lexington, KY - The Dame10-05 Cleveland Heights, OH - Grog Shop10-06 Buffalo, NY - Soundlab10-19 Montreal, Quebec - Theatre National10-21 Detroit, MI - Magic Stick10-22 Milwaukee, WI - Stonefly Brewery10-23 Minneapolis, MN - Varsity Theater10-24 Winnipeg, Manitoba - Royal Albert Arms10-25 Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Amigos10-26 Edmonton, Alberta - The Starlite Room10-27 Calgary, Alberta - MacEwan Ballroom10-29 Vancouver, British Columbia - Commodore Ballroom10-30 Victoria, British Columbia - Sugar10-31 Seattle, WA - Crocodile Cafe11-01 Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge11-02 Eugene, OR - Indigo District11-03 San Francisco, CA - Mezzanine11-04 Los Angeles, CA - Echoplex11-05 San Diego, CA - Casbah11-06 Tucson, AZ - Plush11-07 Salt Lake City, UT - Urban Lounge11-08 Denver, CO - Bluebird Lounge11-09 Omaha, NE - Waiting Room11-10 Chicago, IL - Metro

  4. Marigold says Hmm. I am a huge huge BSS fan and for whatever reason, I never realized that DMST has BSS alumni in it. I really have no opinion on the stuff just yet. I have not even made it through a full record yet. But from the little bit that I have heard, I can definatly hear some of what makes BSS in this music. It is nice to see that connection. ..might just have to check them out in October when they visit Minneapolis.

  5. jameson says Marigold - It'll be a good show. Hopefully they'll bring some other talent along with them too. Maybe some Jason Collett, or Kevin Drew, or Amy Millan, or Emily Haines.... that'd be nice. It's true, DMST's sound can accurately be described as the "backbone" of Broken Soshe.
