My therapy is My Morning Jacket

Posted over 2 years ago
Cue 2003, late fall. It was during the period I call "the Pre-breakup". My girlfriend and I were miserable after 4 years together and 2 of those sharing an apartment, but we were complacent and evasive of our problems.I began spending a lot of time with my friends and generally being destructive like a good 25 year old should. One in particular, he had his own place and I remember that one caustic afternoon in late summer '03, hanging out, drinking Pabst on a couch he couldn't afford in an apartment he paid too much for and passively watching the rerun of Conan O'Brian on Comedy Central. The band that was playing struck that first chord and I knew. You ever get that feeling that the stars have aligned and you know that you were SUPPOSED to be witnessing something, feeling something. In the midst of all of the problems that I was going thru in my life, I was meant to be drawn to this band. This is that very performance. They are my therapy. They are the relief to all of my problems.

  1. chucky says Excellent. I've never heard My Morning Jacket before - this sounds like a 70s throwback. Does all of their stuff have that vibe?

  3. jameson says chucky - I'd say yes. big guitars sweeping, epic solos, heavily reverbed vocals. however the material on their last album (Z) was alot more progressive sounding than this song.

  4. jameson says oh, did you notice that Conan was genuinely surprised at the end of the song. He was floored!
