  3. Terry Staunton says I wish I was in Carrickfergus, Only for nights in Ballygrant I would swim over the deepest ocean, For my love to find But the sea is wide and I cannot cross over And neither have I the wings to fly I wish I could meet a handsome boatsman To ferry me over, to my love and die My childhood days bring back sad reflections Of happy times I spent so long ago, My boyhood friends and my own relations Have all passed on now like melting snow. But I'll spend my days in endless roaming, Soft is the grass, my bed is free. Ah, to be back now in Carrickfergus, On that long road down to the sea. But in Kilkenny, it is reported, On marble stones there as black as ink With gold and silver I would support her, But I'll sing no more 'till I get a drink. For I'm drunk today, and I'm seldom sober, A handsome rover from town to town, Ah, but I'm sick now, my days are numbered, Come all you young men and lay me down.

Wahiawa786 says In 1978 or so, Keola & Kapono Beamer wrote about Honolulu thus: "Honolulu City Lights" Looking out upon the city lights and the stars above the ocean, Got my ticket for the midnight plane and its not easy to leave again. Took my clothes and put them in the bag; try not to think just yet of leaving. Looking out into the city night and it's not easy to leave again. (Chorus) Each time Honolulu city lights stir up memories in me. Each night Honolulu city lights bring me back again. You are my island sunset; you are my island dream. It's become an island classic, especially for those leaving Hawai'i for school, better jobs, affordable housing elsewhere.

  26. goodmusiconly says The obvious answer would be John Denver's, "Rocky Mountain High" ... but as far as the music goes I prefer The Hold Steady's "Cattle and the Creeping Things" and "Milkcrate Mosh" -- "...I'm pretty sure i heard this one before. you in the corner with a good looking drifter. two cups of coffee and ten packs of sugar. i heard gideon saw you in denver. he said you're contagious. silly rabbit. tripping is for teenagers. murder is for murderers. and hard drugs are for bartenders. i think i might have mentioned that before." "the gin was just like gideon. the kings were just like solomon. the bashes were like babylon. the jester kept on jacking off. nervous cough, nervous cough, nervous cough and now we're off. went down on the denver slums and she woke up in the rocky mountain dawn. felt all freed up from the fears that you can never put your finger on. finger on finger on finger on and now were gone."

Could a Copper catch a crooked coffin-maker, Could a Copper comprehend That a crooked coffin-maker's just an undertaker Who undertakes to be your friend, and Tell it to tomorrow, today will take its time, To tell you what tonight will bring. Presently we'll have a pint or two together Everybody do their thing. We can swing together, We can have a wee-wee, We can have a wet on the wall If someone slips a whisper That it's simple, sister, Slap them down and slap it on their smalls, 'cause The fog on the tyne is all mine all mine (blah blah blah) Nice post.

Joxley says Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks Or knackered Converse Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks But all of that's what the point is not The point's that there ain't no romance around there And there's the truth that they can't see They'd probably like to throw a punch at me And if you could only see them, then you would agree Agree that there ain't no romance around there You know, oh it's a funny thing you know We'll tell 'em if you like We'll tell 'em all tonight They'll never listen Cause their minds are made up And course it's all okay to carry on that way And over there there's broken bones There's only music, so that there's new ringtones And it don't take no Sherlock Holmes To see it's a little different around here Don't get me wrong, oh there's boys in bands And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands And just cause he's had a coupla cans He thinks it's alright to act like a dickhead Don't you know, oh it's a funny thing you know We'll tell em if you like We'll tell em all tonight They'll never listen Cause their minds are made up And course it's all okay to carry on that way I said no Oh no! 32. kellywatchthestars says Sorry I'm late to the party, but hopefully I can still enter to win the cheesiest lyrics award. "Connecticut" Performed by: Bing Crosby and Judy Garland I know the spot, peaceful and fair I'd be so happy if I were there No matter where I chance to be Connecticut is the place for me Miss every lake, miss every hill Even in dreams I think of them still And when you see them you'll agree Connecticut is the place to be Villages greens and childhood scenes Are things that I remember yet Land of dreams and moonlit streams How close to heaven can you get? Nights full of stars, hearts full of joy Paradise for a girl and a boy I guess it suits me to a tee Connecticut is the place for me to be Connecticut is the place for me It's such a great state for a late date With a maid waiting just for you And every Yale guy is a male guy through and through (It's an outstanding state) It's never hum-drum dating some chum With his thumb strumming a guitar You'll find the chicks slicker And them nicks quicker by far (It's such a great state) It's spic and spanner than ol' Montana And Indiana can't rate The nights are longer And the men are stronger So linger longer and wait 'Cause it's a great, great, great, great state Dined in Capri, though it was swell Sampled some wine in a Naples hotel Though I was showed the road to Rome Connecticut still will be my home Italy was fun to see And really gave me quite a boost Had a spree in gay Paris Those mademoiselles were mighty cute Circled the globe dozens of times Seen all its wonders, known all its climbs I've searched it with a fine-toothed comb And found that I only have one home, sweet, home Connecticut always will be my home, sweet, home

  36. ivylander says I don't suppose this counts, jameson, but once a band where I grew up (in central Pennsylvania) rearranged the words to "Proud Mary" so that they went like this: "Saw a lot of rain in Boalsburg, pumped a lot of pain down in Centre Hall, but I never saw the good side of Snow Shoe till I hitched a ride to the Nittany Mall." There are maybe three people on MOG who would be in a position to find this amusing, and I hope they see this. Otherwise I've just wasted everyone's time.
