While I live a mere hour away from the Red Sox hub, I unfortunately didn't make the trek to Boston for the opening night of Phish's Summer Tour. Fortunately, throught the miracle of texts, twitter, and iPhones, I was able to get live video, setlist updates, photos, and pictures instantaneously, while sitting in the comfort of my own home. The ext morning the soundboards were posted on Phish's website. I love technology. I really do.

Anyhow, Phish debuted a number of new tracks from their forthcoming album, and from the sampling of tracks dropped in Fenway, the prognosis is positive for the new album.
First up was Ocelot, of which Sonical has posted about channeling The Band.
The second new track, Light, looks to be a great, tight upbeat piece, and a fantastic fast-paced segue-inducing rocker (hit the button). If Ocelot, and Light are any indication of a new focus in playing and songwriting, then I can't wait for what's to come.
And the third is Time Turns Elastic, the "single", as Trey chucklingly put it (clocking in at a chunky 17 minutes). Proggy and compositional from the start, the song has yet to fully develop, but the dark twists and turns TTE took at Fenway point to the song hitting it's stride over the course of the summer. The last section of the song is epic.

Awesome track!!! I loved Ocelot and think I like this one even more. Love it - keep 'em coming.
I unfortunately don't think I'm going to be able to see Phish this year - they're not coming to LA or Southern CA for that matter and I don't think I'm going to be able to travel. Total bummer.
