Dropkick Murphys : hitting my eardrums just right tonight

Posted over 2 years ago
The Dropkick Murphys have always been near and dear to me. While I've had a love-hate relationship at times with their style of music, I've always been able to lend them my hometown support. Now it seems that, again, I've come back full circle with this, their latest release. Maybe it's the echoes of seeing The Mighty Mighty Bosstones a dozen times back in college. Maybe it's the blue collar, hard working, industrial New England punk rock subject content hitting my eardrums in just the right angst-y way. I don't know. Any way, I'm liking this disc. Take the first couple as an example. "Famous For Nothing" (see mp3) with it's Southie imagery of a dead town held together by the bells of St. Mary's. "God Willing" about saying a final goodbye to friends who died too early (and getting out while you still can). "State of Massachusetts" about the Department of Social Services. And then my favorite, the standout "Tomorrow's Industry", an anthemic reminder of just where our country has ended up:"The weight falls hard on the stand up guyThe one you can count on you can relyThis is your future it don't seem rightBut this is your battle, this is your fightSomething in this country has got to changeIf we're ever gonna see those days againYour parents may have done it with just one jobBut now we're working for less and twice as hard."Call it Oi!, Call it Hardcore, Call it Celtic Punk whatever the fuck that is....the fact is this, The Dropkick Murphys are existing in a class of their own and doing it pretty well.Uploaded here, I send to you the first track, "Famous For Nothing". Enjoy?

  4. Lizziegreeneyes says That first paragraph of yours *Jameson* - I could have written it word for word... h1. Mighty Mighty... When I first heard the Dropkick Murphy's I felt like I was home again - where home was late high school & early college & shows at Shitty Gardens, Irving Plaza, The Troc; Where my friends & I would stage dive & hang with Dicky after the shows... good times indeed !!! How bout _*"I'm Shippin Up to Boston"*_ in The Departed... that song made that scene one of my favorites - though the entire film - for me - sheer brilliance, all the boys at their best & Martin taking it up a notch or 9 :) Can't wait to get home & once again... stop by your uploads ;)

  6. Lizziegreeneyes says Wish you could have gone to just ONE Mighty Mighty Bosstones show with me, sis... No haunting - just keep your eyes peeled for their next tour & adjust holiday plans accordingly - you got a place to crash in Philly... & certainly a trip to San Francisco - think we could find one or two folks willing to let you crash :)

  7. jameson says Anna, Lizzie, B(50) - totally. Lizzie - I never hung out with Dicky and the boys, but I couldn't TELL you how many times I jumped off the stage at a bosstones show. And DKM definitely added something sweet and Southie to _The Departed_ Anna - You gotta make the trip to "Bahstin", honey.... Here's a great vid our friend Cam clued me in to:
