The Dropkick Murphys have always been near and dear to me. While I've had a love-hate relationship at times with their style of music, I've always been able to lend them my hometown support.
Now it seems that, again, I've come back full circle with this, their latest release. Maybe it's the echoes of seeing The Mighty Mighty Bosstones a dozen times back in college. Maybe it's the blue collar, hard working, industrial New England punk rock subject content hitting my eardrums in just the right angst-y way. I don't know. Any way, I'm liking this disc. Take the first couple as an example. "Famous For Nothing" (see mp3) with it's Southie imagery of a dead town held together by the bells of St. Mary's. "God Willing" about saying a final goodbye to friends who died too early (and getting out while you still can). "State of Massachusetts" about the Department of Social Services. And then my favorite, the standout "Tomorrow's Industry", an anthemic reminder of just where our country has ended up:"The weight falls hard on the stand up guyThe one you can count on you can relyThis is your future it don't seem rightBut this is your battle, this is your fightSomething in this country has got to changeIf we're ever gonna see those days againYour parents may have done it with just one jobBut now we're working for less and twice as hard."Call it Oi!, Call it Hardcore, Call it Celtic Punk whatever the fuck that is....the fact is this, The Dropkick Murphys are existing in a class of their own and doing it pretty well.Uploaded here, I send to you the first track, "Famous For Nothing". Enjoy?
