So I've been quite a busy lady the past few weeks...I'll recap the past few weeks for ya..Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp- one word to describe this experience: AMAZING.after one day of camp, i couldn't wipe the grin off my face and i let everyone know i had already decided to come back again to volunteer next year. Met tons and tons of folks that I had seen around but not officially met and got to hang out with them. Def. makes me pumped to go back to the boro for school. what i learned at SGRRC: 1) i dislike paramore even more than before. but those girls loooove them. One of the bands they all really talked about. so i couldn't burst their bubbles. Atleast we had some girls into stuff like the yeah yeah yeahs- that helped out a lot.2) dance parties are waay fun. Going out in Nashville is fun (as long as someone with me knows where we're going exactly) and i intend on doing much more of that this fall.3)I was so inspired by camp/the campers/the showcase and how hard the girls worked that I'm starting some sort of musical project. I'm going to learn how to play drums and also guitar and I've started writing lyrics/poetry/whatever in hopes of some fodor for songs at somepoint. it really got me going, after a false start to learn guitar from a friend and form a "band" back in high school (oh high school drama to mess stuff up).All in all- if you're around nashville or (i'm assuming also) memphis next summer and you've got some time, check out southern girls rock and roll camp. it's def. been the biggest hugest brightest highlight of my summer!so i got home from camp for a few days, chilled and laid low, then went on a mission trip.not to say the mission trip wasn't great- it was, but sgrrc being the highlight is b/c it was a totally different thing..yeah..wound up staying at the hotel, sick in bed all day the last work day of the trip, though. that meant lots of internet time for me. Those lads over at Grand Palace are really great at scouring the interweb/youtube for good stuff. They happened to post links to a documentary on glam rock and it was pretty much awesome and got me thinking about/checking out some new stuff I'd never listened to before.Let's just say the T.Rex singles record is pretty much awesome.but i do have to say, about new orleans and the surrounding areas (we worked about 30 mins. away from the city for the week), the one thing that stood out to me the most is when we were eating dinner in the french quarter at this restaraunt, the guy served us and everything and after we pay and all he asks us where we're from and if we were down there to help out. We told him we were there volunteering and he just said "thank you. We really appreciate it" and for some reason that really stuck with me. I think it's b/c he seemed a little like "oh, tourists, whatever" but to have him simply just say thanks was worth all that sweating i did in that building, with no airconditioning or indoor plumbing. and he'll probably never even visit that building. It's def. worth it in the end.Anyways. My kinda outta tune guitar, air drums and semi-notion to write is calling.Have a great one!Jenny
