best show of my life!

I just got back from seeing Kevin Devine. As this title implies, it was the greatest show I have ever seen, ever. The lineup (although I didn't know about any of the other artists prior to today) was EXCELLENT top to bottom... not only did Kevin put on a kickass show but all three openers were AWESOME. Pablo played first, and pretty much they're guys from Kevin Devine's Goddamn Band with their own project. And pretty much they were amazing. They sounded kind of simlar to Kevin (more like the recorded Kevin than the live Kevin) but with a distinct style. Koufax played second, and also has a few members of the Band in it. They were very dance-y and upbeat and had a good piano player, which made them stand out from the other bands which were all guitar-based. Jennifer O'Connor played third, and WOW. She has an incredible voice. She started out with only a drummer and her acoustic guitar, and she was unbelieveable. The crowd really seemed to like her a lot... I sure did. I did not hear her hit one wrong note in the entire 45 minute set. I can't wait to download her CD... it's will definitely blow me away. Then Kevin came on. He, too, started out entirely acoustic with some of his more subdued songs. Then, song by song, more people joined the stage and by about 1/3 way through the set they had about 10 people on stage at once. Mind you, this was in one of the smallest venues ever; the Knitting Factory is like the size of my living room. So the stage was pretty small. But everyone was just up there having a good time... I didn't mention this, but aside from being on tour together all the people in the bands are really good friends with each other and were having so much fun together. They all helped each other out and just got on stage during each others' sets to play along with them. There were so many smiles on that state... it was so great. :) Plus 3/4 of the bands are from New York, so it was a home show for them and they were psyched to be back from touring. Simply put, they all really put everything out there tonight and gave an incredible show. There was so much passion and so much intensity and so much love that it was by far the best show I have ever seen. At the end of the set Kevin played a few more acoustic songs, including an improv cover of "Joey" by Concrete Blonde that was just incredible. After the show someone gave my boyfriend and me free tour posters and we got Kevin to sign them and talked to him for a bit... then we went to the merch table and we made friends with Maggie from Pablo and her manager. I bought the Pablo CD and I'm confident that it will become a staple in my itunes. I also bought a shirt. Adam and I then proceeded to get as many people to sign the poster as possible, and we did really well (11 people out of about 15 at most). I'm so happy. It is going to look so lovely on my wall. :) What really made me happy was that aside from being wonderfully talented musicians, all the people were incredibly nice. Every band member we met, regardless of what band he was in, was willing, even flattered, to talk to us for a couple minutes. They were overwhelmingly grateful for our support, and truly seemed as happy to have enthusiastic fans as we were to have their music. We left the Knitting Factory around 1:30 and headed back to NJ for some late-night diner food. Kevin said it was the best night of his life, and it was definitely one of mine as well.Oh my, will I sleep well tonight. I am so happy! :) I'll post a few pics for you all once Adam uploads them to his computer.
