WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

music for the weather

Posted over 2 years ago
Yesterday it was beautifully sunny and I listened to Yes while driving my boyfriend home with the windows open.Today it was blustery and right now it's pouring. It was a Stars kind of day (one of my favorite Stars lines: "Look up. Rain is falling, looks like love").Point of story is that even though everyone associates certain music with certain moods or experiences, I associate music with weather. There are albums that just speak to me more when their tone fits the weather. Using the examples above Yes (and others, specifically the Garden State soundtrack) are spring-y music for me; Stars, however, is winter music hands-down. They're from snowy cold Canada and the first Stars album I had was a Christmas present, so they eminate winter for me. Arcade Fire and a lot of Death Cab (specifically NOT Passenger Seat) are wintry, too. Summer music for me is defined by Jack's Mannequin and Mae and Grateful Dead, and fall by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Cursive and Something Corporate. These tend to be my cycles of music that's been with me for a while, and of course new artists and albums get added every year. Essentially this is what it comes down to, though. What's your seasonal music of choice?
