A+. At the 2:05 mark, it sounds as if he is singing the key message of the song, only because I can't make it out. He sings, "So try to make an eight hundred, and I'll do the same." I know he's not singing about College Boards.
Spike, I listened to it twice and am no further along than you at understanding what the words are. That seems to be how it is with Aaron Neville. You float along on the voice, and the 30th time you hear a song you realize what a particular lyric actually is. I like his singing on this one because while he's rather liberal about using the old melisma on this, it's relatively controlled and in the spirit of the song. On some of the more recent recordings, he begins to sound as if he's using decoration for decoration's sake.

Not surprisingly, the man behind this is Allen Toussaint.

I agree. Running looks like fun when one is watching a dog do it, and melisma sounds like fun when one hears a singer's voice curving around with it.

A wonderful sentiment, one that carries even more weight when coupled with loss. It's too bad we forget so easily sometimes.

Thanks for the music.
