Spike says
The music sounded great. It created a mood of excitement and energy. The percussion reminded one of the concept: "Africa," while the brass reminded one of the concept: "the Western World." Two concepts in one piece of music. Then the visuals had an automobile driving in Africa, intercut with an automobile driving in the Western World. The splices linked the two visuals together. Having the music and the visuals presented concurrently linked the concepts together into a tight fit.
The music didn't create a mood of unease or suspense. Perhaps the director realized that after the title sequence there would be so much unease and suspense in the film that he wanted to spare the poor viewers for a few minutes of feeling too much unease and suspense.
