MTK and deedee, welcome to my generation's nightmare. Isn't it just astonishing that this was a hit? The school amateur show vocals, the utterly derivative and predictable tune - and those words! They're the apotheosis of horrible Seventies lyrics - right up there with "Sometimes When We Touch," the Bells' "Stay Awhile," Friend and Lover's "Reach Out In The Darkness"....Was the pot really that much worse back then?

    Cody, you've made it official.

By the way, did I mention her haircut?

Omigod, "Sometimes When We Touch." Did I tell about the time (late 70s) I was on an awful blind date in a restaurant when that came on the speakers? Date leans in and says, "This song is really meaningful."

    Again: oy gevalt.

Ivy, damn you to Toxic Hell for eternity. I thought that I had left that song in the dust bin of oblivion and set it on fire with a large bird's nest made of shredded magnesium. Now I'll have to go and listen to Tumbleweed Connection once again.

"You know how some songs just make you despair about humanity?" --- You really know how to sell a song don't you? You must work in advertising.

deedee. I hope you were able to extricate yourself from that relationship without a court order. I'm serious...

Cody, I understand that there comes a point when even the most open ears must demur...

MTK, actually, I think it's the crap that's too much....

Dabeef, not sure even "Tumbleweed Connection" will help. You may need some Irma Thomas to purge yourself. That's what it took for me...

Jonh, do you think I could get a job coming up with billboard slogans for David Cameron?

DM, I strongly suspect that what we're talking about here is more like Textured Vegetable Protein - but far less nutritious....

One would think that, since the song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary, that it would have more of a Sex Pistols-esque punch to it.

...Cripes. This song did not escape my radar. It was a lot on the radio while I was discovering music.

    Feeling like a fool...

How did i miss this?  Obviously i didn't push "play".  The very thought of hearing that song...well, if i could sweat.....

Cody, I really thought you were braver than that....

Spike, Peter Yarrow wrote that song? Not that I'm a PP&M fan or anything, but it's surprising that he has that little self-respect....

poe, we can only be thankful that this did not stop you from wanting to continue discovering music.....

DMDM, not necessary, I can hear you clattering from here....

Bill - Cameron can't help you though you may help Cameron. Unfortunately for you your slogan prowess lacks essential Tory wishy-washiness.

For the right price I can be wishy-washy - er, that is, I am strongly convinced that it would be possible.....

He's convinved it will be possible too....winning an election that is. I sense that both of your convicition of possibilities mixed with an inability to be direct and clear can work wonders together. I'll get my people to call your people with details of his people.

Hey, Jonh!  Love the three-pager you wrote for The WORD, which I read just a few days ago. Seeing a pic of you at 16 or so was icing on the cake.
