  2. Cody B says F... and congratulations to the Phillies in the same breath. On a positive note, now that baseball season is over for me i have more time to MOG.

  4. Spike says We Frisco-ites have twenty more GB games than you do, so why are you so happy, I ask sweetly.

  5. ivylander says Cody, when I lived in New York I adopted the Mets as my National League team (in the AL, I will always live and die with the Orioles, which means I've done a lot of dying over the last decade). I was there in '86 and it was glorious - the tickertape parade passed a half-block from my apartment. This is the most excited I've been about a team since then. The starting pitching is still dodgy after Hamels and Kendrick, and the bullpen tandem of Romero/Gordon/Myers could implode. But damn, this is as strong a team 1-5 as I've seen in quite some time. And they are so hungry...

  6. I am says Wooooooooooooooo Boston, Woooooooooo. Feels good to say that. But I am conflictified by my proximity to Philly. What to do, What to do? You know Bill I comment on you posts infrequently, because ….. well I feel your posts are nothing but superficial blather with nary a modicum of substance. Of course if this where actually true .... With that said, I would like to stack my first exposure to Bonzo for your listening enjoyment.

More zaniness from the 7th Python. Yeah, yeah like the post already just publish dammit.

  7. ivylander says So, Chris, did you bring home the gold in the Foreign Sporran contest? OK, OK, Red Sox, best team in baseball, yeah, yeah, yeah....All I can say is, how many times in the last 10 years has the not-the-best-team-in-baseball taken the Series? And is Dice-K truly out of gas or will he catch a second wind? Because I think he's critical to that team. "Urban Spaceman" was my first exposure to the Bonzos, too, as it was the first track on the album that was called "Urban Spaceman" in the States ("The Doughnut In Granny's Greenhouse" in the UK, where the song "Urban Spaceman" was not included). I will never forget the day I bought that slab of vinyl - I was in high school at the time, and it truly changed my life. Which, I'm sure you are thinking, explains a lot. I wish I'd known you three years ago when I went down to see the Neil Innes solo show at the Tin Angel. He played it, and "The Philosophers' Song," and a bunch of other great stuff. You would have been the perfect company for that gig.

  8. I am says Silver in the "Hairiest Chestnuts" event. Bill, if we knew each other 3 years ago we probably would be celebrating our 2nd year of parole today. Dice will make a difference, but I am a fan of "Schilling.":http://38pitches.com/ Here’s a quote from the Sox home page, *More than any other time of year, October is an arms race in baseball. The Red Sox like the way theirs stack up. The men who will be counted on the most to get the biggest outs are Beckett, Schilling, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, Okjaima, Gagne, Timlin and Manny Delcarmen.*

  9. ivylander says Yeah, Schilling and Beckett are both playoff-tested. And Papelbon is impressive. Isn't Okajima hurting, though? And can you really count on Gagne? Not saying they're doomed, but October is also a time when a hot hand can carry you all the way through. And a hot hand can go stone cold from one series to the next. By the way, no argument from me on the parole observation.....

  10. I am says Agreed, We will have to wait and see. I was thinking about not counting on Timlin, and tendonitis rearing it's ugly head for Curt.
    Permalink posted 09/30/2007
  11. ivylander says Timlin is so hot and cold you can never count on him, but if he's on form the Sox will play - and, most likely, win - a lot of six-inning games. The Angles are going to be very tough, though. And as for the Yankees - well, I think we can also agree that they are vileness incarnate.

    Permalink posted 09/30/2007
  17. Jonh Ingham says This baseball talk is a mystery to me. But when Bonzo cover versions come up, one must always hold a place in their heart for Viv Stanshall's version of 'Suspicion'. And for some reason your post has me thinking of 'The Intro and The Outro'. "Roy Rogers on Trigger..."

  20. Cody B says I'm backing the Cubbies! Let another curse be gone!
    Permalink posted 10/01/2007
  21. ivylander says It'd be nice if the Cubs did well - up to the point when they play the Phillies. I'm a little conflicted - on the one hand I would like to see the curse lifted, on the other it kinda bugs me when Lou Piniella wins....

  22. Dale says One question: how long with the Mets have those huge welt marks on their neck, from choking that hard? Yeesh! On another note: when did the Rockies get good again?
    Permalink posted 10/01/2007
  23. ivylander says Dale, I think they might have first appeared around the time that THE PHILLIES SWEPT THEM IN SUCCESSIVE SERIES.....
    Permalink posted 10/01/2007
  24. Cody B says OK, so maybe the Cubs win and Pinella in incapacitated by bursting blood vessels in his neck while complaining. Yeah, I am not a fan of that cat. The welt marks will last 'til Spring '08, when the Mets will be tied with, the National Leauge Pennant runner up, Phillies.

  25. kristiana says All I can say is..GO PHILLIES!? The Phillies are one of only 2 teams whose stadium I've sat in and rooted for - so I'm not just saying that! :)
