I love The Dismemberment Plan. I cannot even tell you how much. I love every single one of their records. I learned of them after they had broken up through a friend. He had some lyrics from Time Bomb on his AIM away message and I googled them only to discover and fall in love with the band that put that song together.
_"I am a time bomb, I only live in that one moment in which you die"_
So when I learned on MOG and then found the Pitchfork announcement, I had a mini-hysterical hissy fit in which my adrenaline reached levels usually only reserved for the seconds during and after earthquakes. They're getting back together! One night only. For the love of all that is good and right in this world, if you live in D.C. you need to go to this show. And anyways, it's for an absolutely great cause. If you aren't familiar with the Cal Robbins story, it's heartbreaking.

In the spirit of discovery that is MOG, I want to share with you all a easy three-step approach to learning all you need to love The Dismembement Plan.
Step one: Download these songs and listen to them while reading The Plan's history! Download Survey Says from "!" Download Onward, Fat Girl, also from "! Download That's When the Party Started from The Dismembement Plan Is Terrified Download What Do You Want Me To Say? from Emergency & I Download Secret Curse from Change. (and for fun, buy at eMusic or iTunes if you'd like to support them)
Step Two: Get My Take and Read More About Them They're a 90's band, but don't let that scare you off. Their music is still completely enjoyable, timeless and honestly, unlike any other band I've ever heard. It's spazzy. It's chaotic. It's noisy. And it's well-done. It is NOT predictable. They slip so easily from frantic rock into a subdued, nearly comatose and beautiful. And perhaps what makes them so much better than just some punk-dance outfit is that their songs are smart and deep and are everything I love about music.
I believe firmly that other people write this kind of stuff better than I, so I'll allow the rest of the WWW to do the talkin... For a write-up biography read their Wikipedia entry Or an interview with them by Tim McMahan And various other articles about them on Epitonic Pitchfork reviews Emergency & I with a whopping 9.6 score Pitchfork reviews a live performance calling it a Joy To Watch Pitchfork reviews Change giving it a 8.6, and finally Pitchfork covers their break-up
Step Three: Crave More They're generous, these guys. You can stream almost all their discography on their website at dismembementplan.com. So go and have a listen. (Look at that, they're even so awesome and care about the music that they're willing to practically give you the stuff.)
More covereage of the show on: DCist Stereogum More Cowbell Metroblogging DC Tiny Mix Tapes where you can go to visit and get plenty of information about the ticket sale going on at 5 pm, March 2nd.
So enjoy Moggers. Because these guys, are worth every listen.

My Trusted MOGs
Well, I gotta say I am not a D.Plan fan, but I really liked your post anyway. Good intro for people who know nothing about them.
My Trusted MOGs
Well thanks. I appreciate it :)

This is wonderful! I think you described them really well ... especially for a band that's so damn hard to describe. "NOT predictable" is usually about as far as I get when I try to tell other people what they're like. That and "insanely amazing drumming." How am I ever going to make it until April 28?
By listening to lots and lots of D-Plan, I guess...

I confess (shamefully) to being pretty ignorant when it comes to their work. Let thankfully this post will have me up to speed in no time. Thanks much.
