I had a friend send me a link on Threadless to this shirt:
I suppose it's because he's under the impression that I'm one of _those_ people that always knows about the next big thing before it happens. I'm flattered. But you know what, I stumble across these great artists and see they aren't appreciated. That's a bummer. Why would I want to keep something so fantastic to myself? What a lonely idea! Which brings me to my next point (sorta, trust me this all ties together). MOG. I think you're great but lately, I've been sad about the type of music getting the most attention on here. Back in the day (yes, I said it), I could sign onto the Mog-o-Sphere and find some great artists I had never heard about before. It was so much fun! A true musical discovery engine(1). But when I signed on the homepage today, while it was great to see some featured MP3s from musicians like The Clutters, Editors, and Laurie Anderson I was frusterated to see more news about The White Stripes, Art Brut, Courtney Love (?!?) and Bloc Party. Le sigh. I can read all I want about these guys on the major music editorial sites(2).Who's with me? How about some musical diversification? How about a weekly updated Band Class to school you on who I(3) think is worth some time. This is my first official Band Class entry and I'd like you to meet Hopewell.
According to MOG, only the esteemed "Jenny":http://mog.com/jenny, "Maranca82":http://mog.com/maranca82, "Ryan_Policky":http://mog.com/Ryan_Policky, "Avemaria":http://mog.com/avemaria, "Curbyourentropy":http://mog.com/curbyourentropy, "Herky140":http://mog.com/herky140, "Soundgirl":http://mog.com/soundgirl, "Anna_log":http://mog.com/anna_log and "Edieandy":http://mog.com/edieandy know of this delightful band. They aren't super-revolutionary. They aren't anything completely original or anything you haven't heard before but it IS fun music. It IS completely enjoyable to bop around to in your headphones. It's extremely well done alt rock. Well produced with plenty to love about the guys (Jason, Jason, Rich, Tyson, and Lyndon) including a speckled past. __Beautiful Targets__ is their third record to date and comes out July 17th from "Tee Pee Records":http://redirect.iodalliance.com/label.php?id=F2BD7A9A0F852D4464986A69771BB232AD71695B3ACEFD97DC2D9AF53621741BHopewell on "Wikipedia":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopewell_%28band%29 Hopewell's fantastic "website":http://redirect.iodalliance.com/artist.php?id=BA49897CC0270B183C92E57EB0293FFF8D07B206F5FD1828A474031B1969C426 (where you can hear more of their news material) Hopewell on "Myspace":http://www.myspace.com/hopewellStream their new album on "Virb":www.virb.com/hopewell Music courtesty of "iodapromonet":http://promonet.iodalliance.com.Download "All Angels Road":http://redirect.iodalliance.com/download_track.php?id=AB370A847C735E6170B6A9D8A535AD8B7C440360B49A6AF14AC45E80A55DCD47F683B57A66DFBEDDAD473223236A1D7E and "Monolith":http://redirect.iodalliance.com/download_track.php?id=090BF8C374AC50FA34918BE04D9D7F431A33F90635AF31F00C9399A821BDBC3BF683B57A66DFBEDDAD473223236A1D7E. And if you liked this recommendation, add me to your feed, share my link with your facebook friends, twitter about it or just mention Hopewell's music to the person next to you. Because they're too endearing and talented to keep to yourself. (1) There are other ways to discover music on MOG besides the front page, I realize this. There's the music recommendation button, newsletter and all that jazz, but so far, I haven't been too impressed with their ability to tell me thing I don't already either know or have heard previously.(2)I say 'major music editorial sites' a bit tongue-in-cheek because of the diminished roll in print magazines like Rolling Stone, Spin, Paste etc and the generally hardcore-music blogger disdain for indie sites like Pitchfork that also cover quite a bit of these larger previously well known music acts. (3)Yup, no expert here. Just someone who spends an ungodly amount of time listening to music, reading about music and working with music.
