I come across a lot of music in my day. A lot. And I'm often curious, but as it is, time is limited and I don't always get a chance to give something a real listen. So I see a lot familiar album covers but am ignorant to their contents. I've been seeing this one quite a bit, but didn't really do much about it. So I did what I normally do.
I'll just listen to one song and usually, my curiosity is neutralized by an interesting but I like to describe as "Meh" reaction. Then I move on. BUT this guy, I listened to one track and immediately wanted more more more. And after listening to the rest of it, I think it's safe to stay its an excellent representation of that great treat your ears are going to experience with the entire album. And it didn't even strike me until about halfway through but this guy reminds me of one of the indie do-no-wrongs, Sufjan. So I meander over to they myspace pages and Lordy Lordy. They even look alike!
This is the last comparison I'm making because Chris Garneau is really talented and deserves to be paid special attention. Half the time, it felt like homeboy was sitting in my ear, whispering away to me and only me. Like he had been literally shrunk down and placed in my ear to sing sweetly and fill my head with his sad and lovely stories. Other times it felt like he was in a great empty music hall and I was standing in the back completely overwhelmed with his projection and ability to relay soul and emotion. And this is everything that I look for in a musical experience. Beautiful instrumentation. I'm gonna go with the overused description: lush. But that's what it is. Crescendos and falling lines, all beautiful and wistful. I loved it. And the piano. Oh MAN, the piano. Here's that track that I KNEW I'd have to get more and listen to the rest of his release.
