Furtado has gained respect through his impressive guitar playing and world-class banjo playing. He incorporates a deep understanding of traditional music with modern day music, creating a distinctive sound. Tony has been compared to Bela Fleck, Dave Matthews, and a modern Ry Cooder. "These Chains", which follows two previous releases, is in regular rotation on my ipod.

I dig it....nice and bluesy, but funky.
Man, I've never heard of him, either!! Where the hell have I been?
This song gets even better as it goes along..........
A little mellower is this track
This guy has a thing about horses....God, I love that old bluesy guitar...it reminds me of a few early Stones (okay, mostly remakes) but still...like Prodigal Son or Love in Vain.
Impressive pickin!
And a nice instrumental - good stuff jags!
Absolutely.....sweet slidin' !!
Have to admit--I wasn't expecting it to sound like that. And I wasn't expecting it to like it as much as I did. Sweet stuff, man.
a friend turned me on to tony and i must admit i was as pleasantly surprised as you peeps were. a good listen
He became a banjo player in sixth grade after doing a report on the instrument, making a rough banjo out of household items and studying the history of it. Before long, he dove headlong into banjo playing, practicing for hours each day. By 19, he had won a pair of National Bluegrass Banjo Championships and was deemed a prodigy.
I'm sure I was a prodigy, just not sure of what. :-)
Sawback be my favorite here. Reminds me of Leo Kottke and Shawn Phillips at times. Good find my friend- I'll pursue more.
