Look up the word "prolific" and the definition will read - Brian Carroll, better known as Buckethead, is an American guitarist and songwriter. He has released 24 solo albums and performed on over 50 more. He has also made guest appearances on 44 different albums by various artists. His music spans such diverse areas as progressive metal, thrash metal, funk, electronica, jazz, bluegrass and avant-garde music.
When performing in his theatrical persona, Buckethead wears a vintage Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket (emblazoned with an orange bumper sticker that reads FUNERAL in black block letters) on his head and a plain white costume mask (commonly found in costume shops and used primarily for dramatic theater productions). More recently, he has switched to a white bucket, and he no longer wears a KFC-brand bucket. Whenever dressed like this (most of the time during performances) he represents a character who was "raised by chickens, and has made it his mission in life to alert the world to the ongoing chicken holocaust in fast-food joints around the globe".
Although a multi-instrumentalist, Buckethead is best known for his electric guitar playing. Guitar World voted him number 8 on a list of the "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time".
In addition to guitar, drums, piano, organ, mandolin, and banjo, Buckethead is adept in the art of nunchaku.
In 1988, Buckethead entered a song called "Brazos" into a Guitar Player Magazine contest; it was a runner up, This is what was said about him:
"An astonishingly skilled guitarist and bassist, he demonstrates post-Paul Gilbert speed and accuracy filtered through very kinky harmonic sensibilities. His psychotronic, demonic edge is very, very far removed from the clichés of classical metal and rock. A real talent to watch.
From Ozzie Osbourne: "I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing! I said, 'Look, just be yourself'. He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother'. So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum then!'. I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up'? Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker"
From an Amazon review: Guitar legend Buckethead has once again collaborated with bassist/producer Dan Monti to give us another amazing recording! Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot was one of Buckethead's best releases of 2007 and is often compared to the equally amazing Pepper's Ghost album due to it's similarities in style. However DtToB continues to expand of the catchier simplistic style of songs that Pepper's Ghost offered.
Here songs range from fast paced thrash style tunes (Materializing the Disembodied, Killing Cone), to mellow rockers (Ghost Host, Stretching Light House), and to the bizarre (Circarama, Hall of Scalding Vats). Add to that another handful of great tunes including a heartfelt guitar tribute to his late Aunt Suzie (Sail on Soothsayer.)
Decoding the Tombs of Bansheebot is another great wedge from Buckethead showing his great versatility, songwriting, and guitar playing in general.

Nice post, amazing guitar....but lately I've noticed videos not working, and people's pictures/icons not showing up---I'm just mentioning it now; I wanted to make sure it wasn't an isolated thing,.
A Bucket list now.
Well there it is!
Checkerboard Incision
Another great tune from the bucket master!
Now thats tone and fine delivery, never heard of the guy but hey Im from down under and very uncultured, Love the Ozzy story, thanks
Uncultured? I don't think so. Just very particular about letting bucket headed guitarists on to your very refined continent!
Great write up. I loved him in Praxis. I thought that was the greatest super group ever at the time. He's quite the character.
He knows exactly what notes to play and how to play them, judging from this track. I love it.
Plus "Checkerboard Incision" is amazing as well.
Wow, for the first time in 3 days i got MOG notifications!
He is an amazing talent, Spike. Glad you liked it!!
He reminds me a little of the Mermen, a San Francisco instrumental trio. The only other time I've ever heard of him was a while back when Mogger yotochan did a post of him. I just noticed that there are many Mog posts about him, none of which include your two tracks. He's a perfect Mog post subject: wierd unique persona who is somewhat obscure despite a prolific body of brilliant instrumental indie-rock.
I previewed a new unpublished post of mine, and the red and old play buttons don't deliver, so it's on hold. I suspect others may be doing likewise. I've received a few Mog notifications since the 23rd, all of which have playable Rhapsody tracks, except for one whose red button also doesn't play. Mog Forums has been replaced by Help>Support>email.
