This 2007 release by Steve Earle was the first he ever produced in New York City, where he called home for the previous year-and-a-half.

In addition to being produced in NYC, Washington Square Serenade was recorded at Electric Lady Studios and produced by John King of The Dust Brothers (Beck, The Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys).

Guest artists on the album include Forro In The Dark on the tune "City of Immigrants" as well as Earle's wife, singer-songwriter Allison Moorer on the track "Days Aren't Long Enough."

Also included on the album is a cover of Tom Waits' "Way Down in the Hole," which doubles as the theme song for the HBO series "The Wire".
