WayBack Wednesday - Harry Nilsson

Artist:

Named Stereo Review's album of the year for 1970 (and, really, can you ask for a better endorsement than that?) upon its release and generally regarded as the album that introduced Randy Newman the songwriter to a wide audience, Nilsson Sings Newman has gained a reputation of being an minor masterwork. (Randy plays piano on this recording)
Lord, his voice is a thing of beauty - a Monastery Favorite fo'sho'
Oh, and The automobile shown on the album is a 1938 Graham-Paige sedan.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who remembers Stereo Review, back when their LP recommendations could turn an-on-the-threshold musician into Today's Top Artist. I didn't buy this album, but "Randy Newman Live" eventually became part of the turntable. Harry Nilsson followed after a time.
I don't know what it is but I never could get into Randy Newman's songs not that they aren't good.
great stuff, but look what happened in 1971!
total loonfest, love it
LOL!!
NeilNathan: So THAT'S what happened to "The Nairobi Trio" after Ernie Kovacs bit on his final Dutch Masters stogie!? (E.K. was funnier in black-and-white than most of these multicolored present day "comics.")
I love Randy Newman as a songwriter AND as a singer/pianist. Harry Nillson I like, but I've only heard maybe 4 or 5 of his songs until now.
These are great....thanks for posting them! I've enjoyed assigning study carrels while listening to them all! :)
I'm withya jags. just makin it all a little easier :-)
Hey Rummy,
You can read that Stereo Review piece at our little Nilsson shrine, if you're so inclined.
