Liar's Day

Posted over 2 years ago

In his mid-20s when this was released in 2008, he sounds like a grizzled veteran and plays with the passion, subtlety, and assurance of musicians twice his age. Produced by Kenny Passarelli who worked on Jacobs-Strain's previous two discs and also contributes bass, the sound is warm and inviting. Joe Vitale, another old Joe Walsh associate, adds drums and keyboards, fleshing out the sound for a more rock-oriented edge with just the right mix of blues and soul. Dig the Traveling Riverside cover:

Say It To My Face

Black Cat At Midnight

From his MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/davidjacobsstrain

David Jacobs-Strain, a consummate finger-style and slide guitarist, plays in the blues tradition but isn't from it. You'll hear echoes of Skip James, Charlie Patton, Tommy Johnson, and a song or two by Fred McDowell or Robert Johnson in his solo performances. But as a modern roots musician, singer, and songwriter, "I come from the language of the country blues, but it's important not to silence other influences," he says.

I would never have guessed he was that young.  He is talented and seems very wise beyond his years.
