The Further Adventures of Charles Westover

Posted over 2 years ago

Here we have Del Shannon's The Further Adventures of Charles Westover. You probably know Del, born Charles Westover, for his hit 1961 single "Runaway". That damn organ solo seriously gets in my head for, like, days at a time. Anyway, this 1968 outing finds Shannon trying to embrace the groovy sounds of the era. Interesting. I guess he gets an "A" for effort?

Gee, sounds like a Prog wannabe. Fail! Although Musical box has potential.

But seriously, how often does this happen to an artist. They get "type cast" for example, in the song that hit. I loved Runaway, but I doubt these would have caught my attention.

    Cool find.

I bought the previously-unreleased-Pet Sounds-influenced Home and Away CD a couple of years ago. It's spotty but has a few nice songs on it. This must have come out in the same era.

This actually seems to improve on that aborted release. I like I Think I Love You. The other two are period pieces.

I would never have guessed the same person released Runaway and these tunes. Quite different indeed and rather interesting.
