WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Rhythm of the Saints

From a Japanese limited edition issue of the album classic in a deluxe, miniaturized LP sleeve replica of the original vinyl album artwork. I just absolutely love this lp, on more levels that I care to enumerate, Here are a couple of outtakes/work in progress tunes (one in comments) which highlight Paul Simon's vision.

Not only is the music great, but this and Graceland are two of the finest produced albums out there.

    Great post!

Nice post. Haven't heard anything by Paul in a long time. His songs all seem to have a special quality and his singing adds a unique sound.

As a guitarist, Paul seems so underappreciated, especially in his ventures into the nascent rhytmic textures of Africa, which he so masterfully blends into graceful melodies and lyrics.  Quite the musical ethnographer!

Underappreciated because, unfortunately, he's chosen to de-emphasize his excellent playing, instead going for these "world" arrangements.

I own all of Paul's releases, but this is one of my least faves (just being contrary). His first solo LP, which is mostly just Paul and his guitar, is the best, IMHO.

I absolutely love this album, although it took me a long time to really understand it and get into it.

His voice lends a special quality to any song. I too have not listened to him in a long time, so this is good to hear.

Yes, Doc - though not what is considered a "good" voice in terms of range, he uses it very effectively to enhance his compositions. Distinctive is a word that comes to mind - you can never mistake him for someone else>

Yeah, he's one of those talents who does not really NEED more than his voice and guitar playing......maybe throw in a little percussion, and 9 out of 10 times you will have a masterpiece!

BTW--the mini LP version you have----where do you get all of these cool things??
