Bronx native Ari Hest delivers a winning collection of acoustic guitar-based pop-rock on his major-label debut, 2004's Someone to Tell. Throughout the collection, Hest conveys his introspective lyrics in a meaty and soulful voice reminiscent of a young Michael McDonald, and his outstanding backing band sounds consistently seasoned and tight throughout the album's dozen tracks. The disc's best moments include the peppy opener They're on to Me, which is in constant rotation on my IPod.

I love this guy, have him on my live artist to see list this year!
I'm gettin a strange Deja-Vu vibe here.
Nice to hear some acoustic guitar music, it still rocks though.
I hear some Eddie Vedder in his vocal stylings. I like the track a lot.
@ deadmandeadman - it's called shuffle voodoo
@ wiz and Rx - I like it a lot also - very well written tune
very nice, never heard of this guy until tonight
Sounds good.......music sounds kind of like The Rembrandts (his voice, too) and maybe kind of like Michael Penn....I can hear a young Michael McDonald, too.....hell, I should stop comparing him to so many others and just appreciate the sound of.....him!
Likin it! Thanks!
A bit poppy for me but not unpleasant on the ears, I like his voice
His voice captures the well-shaped melody which has just the right tension with the satisfying chord progression done justice by the tight arrangement.
