My Bonnie

Like any story passed on with some music this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Here is what was told to me and this is what I know.

An intern at WMMR in the 80's recorded this show to ananalog source. Being such a tremendous recording thisindividual longed to re-record the master reel straight to a digital source as they became increasingly popular in theearly 90's. At this point the intern had moved on and no longer had this type of access. However, he rememberedperiodically that the studio or the station allowed access to the 'records room' for research activity. Posing as auniversity affiliate doing research on 70's radio advertisingthis individual gained access to the master reels with aportable Sony DAT deck. The room was laid out with shelves with tables on the far end with cassette decks, reel to reeland 'cart' type recorders. Unplugging the cart recorder and connecting the DAT deck history was then digitized. If you look at the timeline it was more than likely recorded with a Sony TCD D3. This early DAT deck was actually graced with a very nice A to D chip. I believe the same chip found in the Panasonic SV3700. Therefore a very nice digital transcript was made that day.

I spoke with Ms Raitt twice waaaaayyyyyy back in the days of Sir Morgan's Cove, back before most folks outside of Worcester  knew her name.  Hell, more folks knew who her dad was than knew who she was.  My dad was a big fan of John Raitt.

These are very nice tracks here.  I've never heard these.

LOVE these songs.....they sound so raw and bluesy. You know, she is so talented, and I really prefer these songs to the "Let's Give Em Something to Talk About" explosively popular era (but in fairness that could be that THAT song, anyway, was overplayed back then, although I don't think so).  Damn that harmonica in the second song is grrrrrrreat!  John Davis---I think he was really cracking her up!

Thanks for posting this, great stuff......

Quality stuff - Bonnie back when - payin her dues and woefully under appreciated at the time. It is a treat to listen to this stuff - I knew you'd dig it!

    DAT? TCD D3? A to D chip? SV3700?

Such a way with words (or should I say letters?)...great tune, though. The technical is obviously way over my bald, speckled head.

that's some sweet pickin'! Started diggin' Bonnie in '77 with that "Runaway" cover, well, the whole Sweet Forgiveness set. I think that was the coda for that SoCal craze(yeah, I know she wasn't from there - just an opinion), and maybe just a lttle late to get what it deserved.
This is wonderfully infectious, if there's extra room on the deadman's hook...
