WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

The Saturday Kids

Posted 9 months ago

Mott The Hoople's box set was released in September of 1998. Three years in the making, it covers Mott's entire career, from early incarnations as The Buddies (1964), Doc Thomas Group (1966) and The Shakedown Sound (1968), through the Island years, the CBS years, right through to the end as Mott and British Lions (1978). More than just a collection of their hits, this lavish 3-CD set includes just about every rarity and unreleased gem the casual (and die-hard) fan could ask for. The Saturday Kids is an amalgum of three different takes, showing the genesis of the song from first draft to an (almost) complete version. This mix also has Ariel Bender's guitar solo, which has been unreleased until now.

I have to say I know very little about mott the hoople......growing up I used to think All the Young Dudes was by David Bowie--

Don't roll your eyes like that ;)

Of course eventually I got more into Bowie, but that's beside the point.  I like this song!  I bet there is more Mott the Hoople I know but don't know I know, uh....

I just read that MTH are reuniting for some shows. In case you hadn't heard because you were too busy with eyebrow maintenance.

    Thank you for noticing, Mark

Some people think I JUST pop up off the floor mat and walk out of the monastery looking this good. Let me tell you, it's a burden!

Never was a fan familiar with All The Young Dudes like everybody else. When it was released you couldn't help but hear it.

This started the day inrum, but didn't have time to comment. You kind of shame me into saying I've never heard this. I need to dig into some of their rarities a bit deeper methinks. Mott's got a lot of great songs, pre and post dudes.
hearing Ian say "hey man, you wanna party?" is a real hoot. Is there a better unsung rock set than the "All the Young Dudes" lp? That one song seemed to overshadow an awful lot! THanks man!!!

Couldn't agree with you more scotty. Hey, thanks for the additional tunage!! If I wasn't so lazy I would have added a few extra tracks from the above. Oh well, as fellow mogger Anna would say, there's always tomorrow.

I ran across the article again. It's in the March issue of MOJO and says that the Hoople are re-forming for two shows in London Oct. 2 & 3rd with the complete original lineup.
